There is no single best Baldur’s Gate 3 preset for every PC or Steam Deck. Start with the settings recommended for your platform, then adjust for your hardware, output resolution, and preference for smoother performance or sharper images. On Steam Deck, Larian’s older FAQ recommends Medium video settings and FSR 1.0 Balanced for performance issues; its later native-build guidance explains the option to use FSR 2.2 for a sharper image at some performance cost. For text, the documented size control applies to books and other legible items, not necessarily every part of the interface.
Steam Deck: start with Larian’s recommendations, then choose clarity or performance
Larian’s Steam Deck FAQ recommends the controller layout “Official Layout for Baldur’s Gate 3 – Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad,” a 16:9 aspect ratio, and Fullscreen display mode under Options > Video. If performance is poor, the FAQ advises using the default video options set to Medium, setting AMD FSR 1.0 to Balanced, and checking for Steam Deck system software updates.
That FAQ advice needs context: Larian later introduced a native Steam Deck build in its Hotfix #34 article. Larian says the native version uses less CPU and memory than the Proton compatibility-layer version, and that native Steam Deck graphics settings are applied by default after the update. It describes the result as “a more stable framerate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay.” That is Larian’s characterization, not an independent performance test.
If the image looks blurry
Larian says the default upscaling choice, FSR 1, can look fuzzy. In the native-build article, it suggests FSR 2.2 for better image quality while noting that it can cost some performance. This is a tradeoff, not a universal recommendation: try FSR 2.2 if sharpness matters more to you, and return to FSR 1.0 Balanced if you prefer the performance-oriented option or the newer mode runs less smoothly on your device.

Windows PC: tune settings for your hardware and resolution
The official material cited here does not establish a current, tested PC preset that works best across hardware classes. Treat the following as a practical adjustment method, not a benchmark or guaranteed frame-rate fix:
- Check your hardware against Steam’s requirements. Steam’s Baldur’s Gate 3 technical page lists the Windows minimum and recommended specifications. Meeting either tier does not promise a particular frame rate or graphics preset.
- Start from the game’s defaults, or Medium if performance is poor. Change one demanding visual option at a time rather than lowering everything at once.
- Repeat the same scene after each change. This makes it easier to tell whether that setting helped on your system; results may vary between areas of the game.
- Consider an upscaler only if its output looks acceptable at your target resolution. Check text and interface clarity as well as the world image.
- Separate graphics limitations from CPU-heavy slowdowns. Lowering image-quality options may help when the graphics card is the limiting factor, but it will not necessarily resolve every slowdown.
Steam’s current listing gives these Windows requirements; they are published specifications, not performance measurements:

Choose an upscaler only when it fits your hardware
Upscaling support depends on the graphics hardware and rendering API. Larian’s Hotfix #34 article says Intel XeSS is available with DX11 for Intel Xe graphics, and with Vulkan for Intel Xe and graphics from other vendors. That does not mean every PC can use every XeSS configuration.

NVIDIA says Baldur’s Gate 3 supports DLSS 2 and DLAA. NVIDIA also reports an average 93% performance increase in its own RTX 40 Series desktop benchmarks. That vendor-reported result applies to those benchmarks; it is not an independent test or a prediction for other GPUs, settings, or systems. For more detail, see NVIDIA’s Baldur’s Gate 3 DLSS article.
Make books and other legible items easier to read
Larian’s Patch 6 notes document a control for changing the size of text in books and other legible items in Interface Options. Look there if that text is too small. The documented setting is not described as a way to enlarge every menu, subtitle, dialogue line, or interface element.

The official sources cited here do not establish a comparable user-adjustable graphics preset for PlayStation 5 or Xbox. PC and Steam Deck settings such as FSR modes should not be assumed to map directly to console options. Larian’s support page includes console patch notes, but those are not a console tuning guide.
