For a broad mix of movies and TV, start by comparing Netflix, Hulu, Max, and Prime Video; choose Disney+ or its Hulu bundle for Disney-owned franchises, and consider Peacock for NBC- and Bravo-associated shows, movies, and eligible sports. There is no exact one-for-one replacement for Apple TV+: each service has a different catalog, and a title’s availability can change. If you want a free option, Tubi and Pluto TV offer ad-supported viewing, but they are not equivalent to a premium originals library.

Choose an alternative by what you want to watch

Apple describes Apple TV+ as a service for exclusive shows and movies, with weekly releases and no ads. That is a different proposition from a broad licensed catalog or a service organized around a major studio’s franchises. Pick the service that best matches your household’s viewing habits rather than expecting another platform to carry the same titles.

Netflix: a broad general-purpose starting point

Netflix is a reasonable first comparison if you want a wide mix of programming rather than a library focused on one studio franchise. Exact tiers, features, and prices can change, so check Netflix’s current US plan terms before signing up.

Disney+ or a Disney+/Hulu bundle: franchises plus general entertainment

Disney+ foregrounds Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Disney’s US site also offers bundles with Hulu, which may suit households looking for those franchises alongside a broader general-entertainment selection. Confirm the bundle’s current contents and price at checkout. Disney’s US pricing information says prices displayed for new subscriptions apply from August 20, 2026; some existing subscribers may see changes on or after October 21, 2026.

Max: HBO-led series and movies

Max is worth considering if HBO-led prestige television and movies are a priority. Check the current tier and the availability of particular titles in your region; catalog and plan details can change.

Hulu: a US on-demand TV mix

Hulu is a candidate for viewers looking for a broader US television mix, including current-season and library programming. Do not confuse the on-demand service with Hulu + Live TV: they are materially different products, so compare the one you would actually use.

Peacock: check the tier if movies matter

Peacock can be useful for NBC- and Bravo-associated television, movies, originals, and sports on eligible tiers. Its Select tier excludes movies, sports, and Peacock Originals, so it is not the right tier to evaluate if movies or originals are the reason you are considering Peacock. Peacock’s plan page lists Select at $8.99 per month or $89.99 per year, Premium at $12.99 per month or $129.99 per year, and Premium Plus at $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year. Those displayed prices should be rechecked before subscribing. Premium Plus includes downloads and no ads, subject to stated limited exceptions.

Tubi and Pluto TV: free viewing with ads

Tubi and Pluto TV are free, ad-supported options for viewers who are willing to trade a paid subscription’s proposition for advertising and changing catalogs. How to compare services before subscribing

  1. Make a short watch list. Identify the shows, genres, studios, or franchises your household watches most. Exclusivity and licensing windows mean a title may move or disappear, so a service’s general reputation is not proof that it carries a particular film or series.
  2. Confirm the tier includes the content you want. If movies matter, check for movie access rather than choosing by the cheapest entry price. Peacock Select, for example, excludes movies, sports, and Peacock Originals.
  3. Separate included titles from add-ons. On Prime Video, distinguish subscription-included programming from rentals, purchases, and paid channel subscriptions.
  4. Compare plan restrictions as well as ads. Check the current terms for downloads, live programming, and ad-supported versus ad-free viewing. Apple describes its subscription as ad-free; Peacock’s premium tiers have different ad and download terms.
  5. Calculate the household’s actual cost. Compare the specific monthly or annual plan and any bundle you would use, not just the lowest advertised entry tier. For Disney+, account for the dated US price changes noted above and check the amount shown for your own subscription.
  6. Check availability just before paying. Search the service for the specific film or series you want, since catalogs and sports rights change over time.

Apple TV+ versus its alternatives

Apple’s current US page lists Apple TV+ at $14.99 per month after a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. Apple describes the service as offering hundreds of exclusive shows and movies, weekly releases, no ads, and Family Sharing for up to six people. Those features may make it a better fit than a broader catalog service if you value Apple Originals and an ad-free experience. For current details, consult Apple’s US Apple TV+ page.

These services are not interchangeable, and a price comparison alone cannot tell you which is best for your household. Match the catalog and plan to what you watch, then verify both the title and the terms on the service’s own site.
