Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor most low-end Windows PCs, BlueStacks 5.22 is the safest overall choice: it supports Android Pie, Android 11 and Android 13 instances, works with Hyper-V on current Windows versions, and lists a 4 GB RAM and 5 GB free-storage minimum. If you have 4 GB of RAM and mainly play lightweight games, try LDPlayer 9 first; it lists a lower 2 GB RAM minimum, but also requires 36 GB of free storage. Published minimums are not promises of smooth gameplay.
MEmu is a useful fallback for compatibility or graphics issues. MuMuPlayer is aimed at stronger PCs, while the Android Studio Emulator is for app development and testing rather than low-end gaming.
Quick comparison
| Emulator | Published minimum RAM | Published storage requirement | Virtualization | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BlueStacks 5.22 | 4 GB | 5 GB free | Required for more than one CPU core; recommended generally | Best overall compatibility and support |
| LDPlayer 9 | 2 GB | 36 GB free | Required | Lightweight games and older PCs |
| MEmu | 2 GB on 32-bit; 4 GB on 64-bit | 5 GB free | Required | Older hardware and flexible graphics options |
| MuMuPlayer | 4 GB | 2 GB installation disk plus 1.5 GB system disk | Required | Newer games on stronger hardware |
| Android Studio Emulator | 16 GB recommended | 16 GB | Required for good performance | App development and testing |
These figures come from the vendors’ published system requirements: BlueStacks, LDPlayer, MEmu, MuMuPlayer and Android Developers. They are not performance guarantees. Windows, the emulator and the Android game all need memory at the same time. A PC with 2 GB of total RAM is not a realistic gaming target, even when an emulator lists 2 GB as its minimum.

Recommended BlueStacks settings
- Open BlueStacks.
- Click the gear icon on the side toolbar, or open the hamburger menu and select Settings.
- Open Performance.
- Set the CPU and memory allocation, then click Save changes.
- Click Restart now when prompted.
BlueStacks’ CPU and memory allocation guidance documents 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM for less demanding apps, and 4 cores and 4 GB RAM for more demanding games. For a low-end PC, start with:
- 4 GB system RAM: 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM for less demanding games.
- 8 GB system RAM: 2–4 CPU cores and 3–4 GB RAM.
- Performance mode: Balanced on a genuinely weak PC.
Do not assign every CPU core to the emulator. Windows still needs processor time for drivers, background services and the game launcher. Giving BlueStacks too much RAM can leave the host system short of memory and cause paging, stutter or pauses.
Lower the display and graphics workload
Go to Settings → Display and use a lower resolution such as 1280 × 720 where available. BlueStacks lists 160 DPI (Low), 240 DPI (Medium) and 320 DPI (High); try 160 DPI to reduce the display workload.
Open Settings → Graphics. BlueStacks offers Vulkan & OpenGL and OpenGL Only renderer options, along with interface-renderer, ASTC texture and GPU-selection controls. On an older or unreliable graphics driver, test OpenGL Only first. If a game displays a black screen, flickers or crashes, try the alternate renderer and restart BlueStacks after saving the change.
2. LDPlayer 9 — best when resource usage matters
LDPlayer 9 is the strongest second choice, particularly for lightweight games and older computers with 4 GB of RAM. LDPlayer’s requirements list a 2 GB RAM minimum and 36 GB of free storage. It requires hardware virtualization and may perform best with Hyper-V disabled for demanding games or multi-instance setups.
LDPlayer’s current product documentation promotes LDPlayer 9. Older advice recommending LDPlayer 3 is outdated; LDPlayer 3 may use fewer resources in some cases, but it should not be treated as the current supported default.
Recommended LDPlayer settings
- Open LDPlayer and click the settings icon on the toolbar.
- Open Settings → Advanced.
- Set CPU to 2 cores.
- Set RAM to 2048M.
- Click Save.
LDPlayer’s configuration guide identifies 2 cores and 2048 MB as a common setup for ordinary games. For frame rate, use 30 or 60 FPS, depending on the game. A 120-FPS setting does not make a game run at 120 FPS unless the game and emulator support it, and it increases CPU and GPU workload.

Avoid multi-instance use on a low-end computer. Each additional instance consumes memory, CPU time, storage and graphics resources. LDPlayer provides multi-instance optimizations such as disabling sound and reducing RAM or graphics-memory usage, but those controls cannot remove the cost of running multiple Android systems.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →3. MEmu — a useful fallback for older hardware
MEmu is worth trying when BlueStacks and LDPlayer have a compatibility problem with a particular game. MEmu’s system requirements list a minimum of 2 GB RAM for 32-bit systems and 4 GB for 64-bit systems, along with VT-x or AMD-V and OpenGL 2.0 support.
MEmu offers OpenGL, Vulkan and DirectX rendering modes. Switching renderers is an official troubleshooting step if a game freezes or displays corrupted graphics. MEmu also documents a memory-optimization option for computers with limited RAM.
Recommended MEmu settings
- Open MEmu and select Settings → Engine.
- Set CPU to 2 cores.
- Set RAM to 2048 MB.
- Set performance to Medium.
- Use 1280 × 720 or a lower resolution.
- Set the frame rate between 30 and 60 FPS.
- Use 160 DPI.
MEmu’s CPU and memory configuration documentation notes that AMD CPU core allocation may be limited to two cores for compatibility.
Emulators that are poor choices for low-end PCs
MuMuPlayer
MuMuPlayer is not the first choice for a genuinely low-end computer. Its Windows requirements specify an Intel Core i5-7500 or better, a four-core CPU, 4 GB RAM and enabled VT. Some games require a dedicated GTX 950- or GTX 1050-class graphics card, according to MuMuPlayer’s requirements.
Recommended Free Tools
MuMuPlayer 6.0, announced July 7, 2026, is based on Android 15 but is an early-test release. Newer Android support does not automatically make an emulator lighter. Choose MuMuPlayer for a stronger PC that needs newer Android compatibility, not simply because it has a newer Android version.
Android Studio Emulator
The Android Studio Emulator is designed for developers testing applications and Android APIs, not for low-end gaming. Android Developers recommends 16 GB RAM and 16 GB of disk space for the Android Emulator. It can be an excellent development tool, but is excessive for playing mobile games on an old PC.

How much RAM should you give an emulator?
| System RAM | Starting allocation | Practical expectation |
|---|---|---|
| 2 GB | Not recommended | No mainstream Windows emulator should be considered reliable for gaming. |
| 4 GB | 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM | Lightweight games only; close other programs. |
| 8 GB | 2–4 CPU cores and 3–4 GB RAM | Best balance for many games with integrated graphics. |
| 16 GB or more | Adjust according to the game | More room for demanding games or multiple instances, but over-allocation can still hurt performance. |
These starting allocations follow the BlueStacks and LDPlayer configuration guidance. Use the smallest allocation that gives the game enough room. More RAM and CPU cores do not always make an emulator faster. If Windows runs out of free memory, it uses storage as virtual memory, which can cause stutter and long pauses.
Check virtualization before installing
Hardware virtualization is one of the most important requirements. In Windows, open Task Manager → Performance → CPU and check the Virtualization field, as described in LDPlayer’s virtualization guide.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If it says Disabled, enable the feature in BIOS or UEFI. Depending on the processor and motherboard, the option may be named:
- Intel: Intel Virtualization Technology, VT-x or VMX.
- AMD: SVM Mode or AMD-V.
Without virtualization, an emulator may refuse to start or run substantially slower. BlueStacks requires virtualization when allocating more than one CPU core, while LDPlayer and MEmu list VT-x or AMD-V as required or strongly necessary.
Hyper-V compatibility
BlueStacks has supported Hyper-V since version 5.20. On Windows 10 or Windows 11 with Hyper-V enabled, the current installer installs the Hyper-V-compatible version automatically, according to BlueStacks’ Hyper-V requirements.
LDPlayer released a Hyper-V-compatible version on March 5, 2026, but its documentation still recommends disabling Hyper-V for maximum performance in demanding games and multi-instance use. To test that configuration, open an elevated Command Prompt and enter bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off. Restart Windows afterward. To enable the Windows hypervisor again, enter bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto.

Common problems and practical fixes
It stops at 50% or says virtualization is unavailable
Check that VT is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and that another hypervisor is not controlling it. Windows Sandbox, Virtual Machine Platform and Windows Hypervisor Platform can interfere with some emulator configurations. LDPlayer’s troubleshooting documentation also identifies Avast hardware-assisted virtualization as a possible cause of detection problems. If the processor does not support the required virtualization extensions, changing emulator settings will not solve the issue.
It becomes slower after adding RAM or CPU cores
Reduce the allocation. On a 4 GB PC, start at 2 GB RAM and 2 CPU cores. On an 8 GB PC, 3–4 GB RAM is a sensible starting range for one instance. Leave enough resources for Windows and do not allocate all CPU cores.
Black screen, flickering or corrupted graphics
Update the graphics driver if a current driver is available, then test another renderer. In BlueStacks, use Settings → Graphics and try OpenGL Only or the alternate renderer. MEmu provides OpenGL, Vulkan and DirectX options under its engine settings. Some games may require a different Android instance or graphics mode.
The emulator will not install because of storage
Keep more free space than the installer download size. Emulators create virtual disks, caches and snapshots. LDPlayer’s published requirement is 36 GB free, so check the available space before installing. A nearly full system drive can cause installation, startup and update failures even when the emulator itself appears small.
The game is missing from Google Play
Availability can depend on the Android version, device profile, ABI, region, certification status and whether the developer blocks emulators. BlueStacks provides device-profile controls under Settings → Phone. Installing an APK may bypass a missing Play Store listing, but it cannot bypass architecture, Android-version, certification or anti-emulator restrictions.
Windows version limitations
BlueStacks versions 5.21.300 and earlier are the last versions compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8. Version 5.21.301 and later require Windows 10 or newer, according to BlueStacks’ compatibility notice.
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. An emulator may still run on Windows 10, but an unsupported operating system is not a good secure long-term setup. If the PC cannot run a supported Windows version, use an emulator only with an understanding of the security and compatibility trade-offs.

FAQ
What is the best Android emulator for a low-end PC?
BlueStacks 5.22 is the best default choice for most low-end Windows PCs because it combines broad game compatibility, several Android versions, current support and Hyper-V compatibility. LDPlayer 9 is the better alternative when resource usage is the priority.
Is LDPlayer better than BlueStacks on a 4 GB RAM PC?
It can be. LDPlayer publishes a lower 2 GB RAM minimum and may perform better with lightweight games. However, it requires 36 GB of free storage and may work best with Hyper-V disabled. If LDPlayer has compatibility or startup problems, try BlueStacks with 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM.
Can an Android emulator run on a 2 GB RAM computer?
Some emulators list 2 GB as a minimum, but a 2 GB Windows PC is not a reliable gaming platform. Windows, the emulator and the game must share the same memory, so expect severe slowdown, crashes or failure to launch.
Do I need to disable Hyper-V for BlueStacks?
No. BlueStacks 5.20 and later support Hyper-V. Disabling Hyper-V may improve performance in some configurations, but it is not required for current BlueStacks 5.22 operation.
Which emulator is best for an old dual-core PC?
Try LDPlayer 9 first for a lightweight game, using 2 CPU cores and 2048 MB RAM. If it has compatibility or graphics problems, test BlueStacks 5.22 with 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, 1280 × 720 resolution and a lower frame-rate setting.
Why does enabling 120 FPS make my emulator slower?
High frame-rate modes increase rendering and CPU workload. A 120-FPS setting does not guarantee 120 FPS unless the game and hardware support it. On a low-end PC, 30 or 60 FPS is usually more stable.
The Bottom Line
Choose BlueStacks 5.22 if you want the best overall balance of compatibility, Android-version options and support. Choose LDPlayer 9 if you have an older 4 GB machine or mainly play lightweight games and BlueStacks feels too heavy. Keep MEmu as a fallback for renderer or compatibility problems.
Before blaming the emulator, enable hardware virtualization, lower the resolution and frame rate, and avoid assigning all of the PC’s RAM or CPU cores. MuMuPlayer and Android Studio Emulator are better suited to stronger computers or specialist use than to genuinely low-end gaming.
