Best alternatives by use case
Firefox for Android: extensions and Mozilla sync
Firefox is the clearest option in this comparison if you want Android add-ons as well as built-in tracking protection. Mozilla says tracking protection works without extra setup, while add-ons can add functions such as ad blocking. You can install extensions from Firefox’s in-browser extensions manager or from addons.mozilla.org. Mozilla cautions that some add-ons are not compatible with Android, so do not expect the full desktop catalogue to work on a phone.
Firefox Sync can carry tabs, bookmarks, and passwords across devices. It is worth considering if you already use Firefox elsewhere or want those specific items available on your phone. Confirm that the extensions you rely on are supported before making Firefox your daily browser.
Brave: protections on by default
Brave’s Shields is designed to block unwanted resources without requiring a separate ad-blocking extension. Brave says Shields blocks third-party cookies and storage by default, uses filtering lists, and randomizes some browser features that can be used for fingerprinting. If a site does not work properly, you can lower or disable Shields for that site. Brave notes that doing so turns off some protections, so treat it as a troubleshooting adjustment rather than a cost-free fix.
DuckDuckGo Browser: simple privacy controls
DuckDuckGo emphasizes tracker blocking and easy clearing of local browsing data. Its browser can delete open tabs, history, and browsing data in one action. The company also says it blocks most ads and cookie pop-ups; “most” matters, because this is not a promise to remove every ad or every form of identification.

These controls can reduce tracking and make it easier to clear information stored in the browser. They do not make you anonymous or conceal all network activity from websites, an internet provider, or an employer.
Vivaldi: customization and built-in tools
Vivaldi is the option to investigate if you want a browser that can be adjusted extensively rather than kept minimal. Its Android feature list includes an ad and tracker blocker, private tabs, a reading list, page capture, translation, and themes. It also supports extensions and syncs browser data across devices.

Vivaldi says its sync is end-to-end encrypted and that private tabs do not save information once closed. Those are vendor claims about product features, not independent audit findings. Private tabs are useful for limiting what remains in local browsing history, but they do not hide network activity from the sites or networks you use.
What about Edge, Chrome, or staying with Samsung Internet?
Microsoft Edge
A 2026 editorial comparison lists third-party extension support for Edge on Android. Because browser features and extension catalogues change, check the current Edge listing and available extensions on your device before choosing it for a particular add-on. The material available for this comparison does not establish a detailed current Edge sync assessment.

Chrome
Chrome may be a natural choice if you already use Google’s browser ecosystem, but the Android listing referenced in a 2026 comparison does not list extensions. This comparison does not verify current Chrome sync behavior against primary Google documentation, so check Google’s current help information if sync is central to your decision.
Samsung Internet
Switching is not automatically an upgrade. The available editorial comparison points to Galaxy integration as a reason to retain Samsung Internet, but it does not establish detailed current Galaxy-only features. If that integration is important, compare Samsung’s current documentation for the exact phone and software version you use before replacing the browser.

How to switch without losing your bookmarks or passwords
A browser switch can involve importing data, selecting a new default, and signing in to a sync account. Do not assume that every browser imports every data type; check the destination browser’s current import and sync documentation, especially for saved passwords.
- Check support first. Look up the new browser’s current Android import options and verify that it supports the data you need, such as bookmarks or passwords.
- Install and import. Follow the browser’s in-app setup or import flow. Available sources do not establish one universal menu path across Android versions and browser releases.
- Enable sync only if useful. Sign in to the chosen browser account if you want supported data, such as Firefox tabs, bookmarks, and passwords, available on your other devices.
- Set the default browser if desired. Use Android Settings to find the default-app or browser-app setting; the exact path and label vary by Android version and device. Check the selected default by opening a link from another app.
- Test before relying on the new setup. Confirm that your bookmarks and any essential extensions or site sign-ins are available before removing or resetting the old browser.
Why this comparison does not name a speed or battery winner
The available material does not establish a comparable independent Android test of these browsers’ speed, battery use, or memory consumption. Vendor performance statements are not a shared test basis, so a ranking on those measures would be unsupported.
Market figures are also easy to misread. The UK Competition and Markets Authority’s 2023 report describes Android browser supply in 2021: Chrome 74%, Samsung Internet 15%, Firefox 4%, DuckDuckGo 2%, Opera 2%, Brave 2%, and Edge 0.7%. These are historical UK figures, not current worldwide market shares. The same report says more than 95% of Android browser vendors it assessed used a version of Blink, while Firefox used Gecko; that finding is likewise tied to the report’s assessment, not a statement about today’s market.
