1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf you want to replace a TP-Link router to improve your home network’s security, choose based on the features and support policy of the specific model—not a blanket claim that another brand is safer. ASUS offers a conventional router-replacement path; UniFi suits households willing to configure a network for more control; Firewalla can serve as a separate security gateway; and eero is a managed mesh option with a published, qualified security-update commitment.
The vendor documentation cited here describes features and policies, not independent, head-to-head security tests. It does not establish that every TP-Link router has a security defect or that one alternative is categorically safer.
How to choose an alternative
Start with the change you actually need. Replacing one all-in-one router is different from adding a gateway to existing Wi-Fi equipment or building a configurable network from separate components. Compare the options on these practical questions:
- Architecture: Do you want one router, a mesh system, or a gateway paired with access points?
- Control: Is straightforward setup more important than configuring guest access, device separation, and other network settings?
- Compatibility: Do your phones, computers, smart-home devices, and existing access points support the security mode and topology you plan to use?
- Ongoing support: What does the manufacturer say about updates for the exact model, and what purchase conditions apply?
- Cost and upkeep: A gateway-plus-access-point setup may involve more equipment and configuration than a single router. The cited sources do not establish current prices or comparative operating costs.
WPA3 availability is model- and device-dependent. ASUS says all of its AX and BE router series support WPA3, but readers should verify the specifications of other models. Ubiquiti documents WPA2/WPA3 options and notes that compatibility with clients and features affects which mode is appropriate. See ASUS’s WPA3 compatibility guidance and Ubiquiti’s UniFi WiFi settings overview.

ASUS: a straightforward router replacement
ASUS is the most direct fit if you want to swap one conventional router for another rather than redesign the home network. ASUS says all routers in its AX and BE series support WPA3; its compatibility guidance also makes clear that clients and settings matter. Confirm the exact model’s specifications before buying, particularly if you need a feature beyond WPA3.
ASUS also reports that it passed the FCC’s cybersecurity review for consumer routers and received conditional approval as a Trusted Consumer Router Vendor. That is a vendor-reported regulatory status, not an independent comparison showing ASUS routers are more secure than TP-Link or the other options here. Consult ASUS’s explanation of its FCC review alongside the specifications and support information for the model you are considering.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
UniFi: more configuration control, more setup responsibility
Ubiquiti’s UniFi documentation describes WPA2/WPA3 settings, protected management frames, guest-network options, and settings linked to VLANs. Those controls can help a household configure separate network access—for example, separating guest devices from the main network—but using them effectively depends on the equipment and configuration.
UniFi is therefore a better fit for someone willing to understand and maintain a more configurable setup than for someone seeking the simplest one-box replacement. Review the documented options in UniFi’s SSID and access-point settings overview, then confirm the requirements of the specific equipment you plan to use.

Firewalla: a gateway for a network you plan deliberately
Firewalla Gold and Purple are security-gateway options rather than a simple promise of better Wi-Fi coverage. Firewalla says these products work best in Router Mode and documents capabilities such as segmentation and network management. Its router compatibility guide and product-selection guide are useful starting points for checking how a gateway fits with your current router and network.
Before choosing this path, work out what will provide Wi-Fi coverage, how the gateway and access points will connect, and whether your intended arrangement is compatible. A gateway’s documented controls do not by themselves establish that a network is secure, and adding a component can increase setup and maintenance demands.

eero: managed mesh with a model-qualified update policy
eero may suit a household that wants a managed mesh system rather than a configurable gateway or a single replacement router. Its security-update policy says it guarantees updates for at least five years from qualifying new purchases made through eero.com or Amazon.com, or until a later date stated for that model. The period is not a universal end date for every eero device: check the policy and the date listed for the particular model you own or plan to buy.
The commitment is useful information about stated update support, but it is not a comparative security ranking. Read eero’s software security-update policy and confirm that your purchase and model meet its conditions.

Make the security setting work for your household
Whichever brand you choose, verify the exact router or system model, its documented security options, and its update support before purchase. When configuring the network, use the strongest security mode that all the devices and features you need support; a mode that prevents essential devices from connecting may not be practical. For WPA3 in particular, consult the manufacturer’s model-specific instructions and account for client compatibility.
Do not treat a feature list as proof that a home network is secure. Segmentation, guest access, protected management frames, and update policies are documented capabilities or commitments; their value depends on the equipment, configuration, compatibility, and continued maintenance of your actual network.
