The Samsung Galaxy A36 5G is the closest replacement if you want to stay with Samsung, but it is not automatically the best buy at the same price. For stronger performance and camera processing, consider the Google Pixel 9a if its local price fits your budget. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro stands out for its large high-refresh display and 3x zoom camera, provided its network compatibility and camera trade-offs suit you.

Prices and availability differ by country, and the A35’s original US launch price is not a current street-price quote. Compare today’s local offers before deciding; a discounted A35 can still be better value than a newer phone.

What counts as the Galaxy A35’s price range?

Samsung announced the Galaxy A35 5G in the US in March 2024 with a starting price of $399.99. That was its launch price, not a current price. Samsung’s US configuration had 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while configurations and availability vary by region and carrier. Samsung’s launch announcement lists a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with refresh rates up to 120Hz, a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery, and rear cameras comprising a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro camera.

Those specifications make the A35 a useful comparison point, but its original price should not be treated as a live benchmark. If the A35 is now substantially cheaper than its alternatives, compare the actual prices for equivalent storage, unlocked or carrier-locked status, taxes, and any sale or trade-in conditions.

Samsung Galaxy A36 5G: the nearest Samsung replacement

The A36 is the most direct choice if you want a newer Samsung phone rather than a change of software ecosystem. Samsung lists a 6.7-inch display, compared with the A35’s 6.6 inches, and stated peak brightness of 1,200 nits rather than 1,000 nits. It also specifies 45W wired charging versus the A35’s 25W, plus six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates; the A35’s launch commitment was four OS generations and five security years. Samsung’s US product page describes the A36 as IP67-rated with a durable glass back. Check Samsung’s A36 product information for the configuration and availability in your market.

When the A36 makes sense

  • You prefer Samsung’s software and ecosystem.
  • The larger display, faster wired charging, and stated support period matter more to you than the A35’s lower sale price.
  • You find the A36 at a competitive local price rather than relying on its launch-period US MSRP.

Why to compare performance before buying

Android Authority’s A36 review lists a US MSRP of $399.99 and describes sluggish performance in the reviewer’s experience. The reviewer recommends looking beyond the A36 when performance is a priority, while noting that the A35 may remain worth buying if it is substantially cheaper. These are the review’s findings, not a guarantee of how every app or workload will feel. Read Android Authority’s Galaxy A36 review.

Google Pixel 9a: a step-up for performance and cameras

The Pixel 9a is the stronger candidate if responsiveness, camera processing, and software support matter more than matching the A35’s larger-screen feel. Android Authority’s 2025 budget-phone comparison listed the Pixel 9a at $500 and the Galaxy A36 at $400 in its US comparison at that time; these are dated figures, not current prices. That comparison identifies Google’s Tensor G4 chip and reports that the Pixel led the compared phones in CPU and graphics benchmarks. The benchmark results are specific to that publication’s comparisons and do not predict every user’s experience. See Android Authority’s 2025 budget-phone comparison.

Android Authority’s A36 review describes the Pixel 9a as smoother, with better cameras and similarly strong software support, while identifying a smaller display and slower charging than the A36 as trade-offs. Android Authority’s earlier A35 alternatives section also points to wireless charging and stronger software support on the Pixel, while noting Samsung’s more flexible cameras. Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: a large screen and real zoom camera

The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is a feature-forward alternative rather than a default value winner. T3’s 2026 affordable-phone guide lists a 6.83-inch, 1260 × 2800 display, Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, a 5,080mAh battery, and 50W charging. It lists 50MP main and 50MP 3x zoom rear cameras. TechRadar’s 2026 US guide also lists an 8MP ultra-wide camera and describes the phone as an affordable alternative, but flags camera exposure and color consistency and battery endurance as review weaknesses. Its listed dust- and water-resistance rating is IP65. Read TechRadar’s Nothing Phone (4a) Pro review.

Consider it if you want a larger high-refresh screen, distinctive design, or a telephoto camera. Before buying, confirm that the specific regional model supports your carrier’s bands and check the local warranty, return policy, and current price. TechRadar specifically advises US buyers to check carrier-band support; network compatibility and availability can vary by region.

  • Nothing Phone 3a Pro: offers a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, 6.7-inch display, and triple-camera setup; the cited coverage warns about US network support.

How to compare phones before you buy

  1. Compare the actual local prices. Match storage tier and unlocked or carrier version, then account for taxes, trade-ins, and sale conditions. The A35’s US launch price and the dated comparison prices above are not live quotes.
  2. Decide how much performance matters. Android Authority’s cited comparison favored the Pixel 9a in its benchmarks and found the Nothing Phone 3a ahead of the A36 in the tests it reported. Treat those as source-specific results, not guarantees for every app or workload.
  3. Match the camera hardware to how you shoot. Compare main-camera consistency, ultra-wide coverage, optical stabilization, and true telephoto zoom. More lenses or megapixels alone do not establish better image quality. The A35 has a flexible rear camera set; Android Authority favors the Pixel’s camera experience, while Nothing’s zoom hardware comes with review caveats.
  4. Check the support promise for the exact model and region. Samsung states six OS generations and six security years for the A36. Android Authority’s cited comparison lists seven years for the Pixel 9a and six for the Nothing Phone 3a; verify the applicable manufacturer terms for the model you intend to buy.
  5. Balance display, charging, and durability. The A36 is larger and charges faster than the A35. Android Authority describes the Pixel 9a as smaller and slower-charging than the A36. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is larger and supports 50W charging in T3’s guide, while TechRadar lists IP65 protection.
  6. Verify network and after-sales fit. Check carrier bands, SIM or eSIM setup, warranty coverage, seller reputation, and return terms, especially for a Nothing phone or an imported handset.
