The best Chromecast replacement depends on how you watch: choose Roku Streaming Stick 4K for a compact stick with listed AirPlay compatibility, Google TV Streamer (4K) if you want Google’s TV platform and accept a set-top box, or Apple TV 4K if you prefer Apple’s ecosystem and its documented wired-network option. First check that your usual apps support the casting method you use and are available for the device in your region.
Choose by how you watch
- You mainly cast from a phone or browser: Confirm the apps and devices you rely on support the replacement’s casting method. Google documents Google Cast-compatible device setup, while Roku lists Apple AirPlay compatibility; those systems are not interchangeable. Check Google’s Google Cast requirements and the product’s local app support before buying.
- You want to browse and play with a remote: Consider Roku Streaming Stick 4K or either set-top box. Roku lists a voice remote with TV power and volume controls. Check the exact model’s current remote and interface details if those features matter.
- You need 4K or HDR: Match the device to your television and the content you watch. A 4K streamer cannot make a 1080p TV display 4K.
- You want a small device behind the TV: Roku is the stick-style option among these three. Google TV Streamer and Apple TV 4K are set-top devices and need a place near the television.
Compare the alternatives
| Device | Form factor and ecosystem | Useful documented details | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roku Streaming Stick 4K | Streaming stick; Roku platform | Roku lists Apple AirPlay compatibility and a voice remote that controls TV power and volume. Roku product details | The cited Roku page establishes AirPlay, not Google Cast. Confirm your apps and casting workflow support Roku in your region. |
| Google TV Streamer (4K) | Set-top device; Google TV and Google Cast context | Google documents the device as a way to bring streaming services to a TV. A 1080p display limits output to 1080p. Google TV Streamer details | It is a box, not the compact Chromecast-style HDMI dongle. Check your display and app support. |
| Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) | Set-top box; Apple-centered option | Apple lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+/HDR10/HLG support up to 2160p at 60 fps. Its product information lists a 64GB Wi-Fi model and a 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet model. An HDMI cable is sold separately. Apple technical specifications and Apple product information | Account for the separately sold HDMI cable and choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet based on your setup. Check local service availability. |

Check your TV and setup before choosing
- Confirm the HDMI connection. Check that the television has an available HDMI input and that you can position a stick or set-top box appropriately. Apple says its HDMI cable is sold separately.
- Match output to the screen. Verify the TV’s resolution and HDR support. Google says a 1080p display receives video up to 1080p with Google TV Streamer; Apple’s listed formats apply only when the display and content support them.
- Verify the exact apps and casting route. Check device support from each streaming service in your country, and make sure the phone, computer, and app you actually use can send video to that platform. Do not assume AirPlay replaces Google Cast or that every app supports either.
- Check network and remote needs. Consider Wi-Fi quality, whether Ethernet is useful, and whether you prefer a physical remote. Apple lists Ethernet on its 128GB Wi-Fi plus Ethernet configuration; Roku lists remote controls for TV power and volume.
- Compare the complete local cost. Check current local listings and include any separately required accessories. Prices, stock, and app catalogues vary by market and can change.
Which one should replace your Chromecast?
Pick Roku Streaming Stick 4K if you want a stick
It is the clearest fit here if you want a compact stick and AirPlay compatibility is useful in your household. Do not buy it on the assumption that it supports Google Cast; confirm that your apps and devices work with Roku’s supported options.
Pick Google TV Streamer (4K) if you want Google’s TV platform
This is the Google-oriented choice among the three, but it changes the physical setup from a small dongle to a set-top box. Choose it when that trade-off works for your space and your display supports the resolution you want.

Pick Apple TV 4K if Apple integration or Ethernet matters
Apple TV 4K is the Apple-centered set-top alternative. Its documented Ethernet configuration may suit a setup where wired networking matters; factor in the separately sold HDMI cable and check that your services are available on the device locally.
