For a compact monitor that can handle both gaming and everyday work, start with the features you will notice most: refresh rate and adaptive sync for motion, resolution for text and detail, and stand or USB-C features for desk convenience. Three candidates stand out on paper: MSI’s PRO MP242 E14C for its listed 144Hz refresh rate, USB-C and VESA support; BenQ’s BL2490C for its listed 144Hz, IPS panel and 99% sRGB; and BenQ’s GW2486TC as an office-oriented option with an adjustable stand.

These are specification-based choices, not a controlled head-to-head ranking. Confirm the exact regional model and current price before buying.

How to choose a 24-inch monitor for both gaming and work

Refresh rate and adaptive sync for gaming

A higher refresh rate can make motion appear smoother when your PC can deliver enough frames. Adaptive-sync support can help coordinate the display’s refresh with the graphics output. Check both features on the exact model rather than assuming every monitor marketed for work is suited to gaming.

MSI lists the PRO MP242 E14C at 144Hz and specifies Adaptive-Sync/AMD FreeSync support. BenQ’s US product page lists the BL2490C at 144Hz. Those specifications make both worth considering for mixed use, but they do not establish which performs better in practice.

Resolution and viewing distance

The MSI PRO MP242 E14C and BenQ BL2490C are listed as Full HD (1920 × 1080). Full HD is a practical fit for many everyday tasks, but text and fine detail are less crisp than on 1440p or 4K displays, particularly when sitting close, as TechRadar notes in its 2026 business-monitor guide. If sharp text and dense spreadsheets matter more than gaming motion, compare higher-resolution options too.

USB-C: check charging power, not just the connector

USB-C can carry video and data as well as power, which may let a compatible laptop connect with fewer cables. MSI describes USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and Power Delivery on the PRO MP242 E14C; BenQ lists USB-C on the BL2490C, and TechRadar describes USB-C charging on the GW2486TC.
