Consider Mint if prepayment works for you

Mint’s advertised $15 monthly equivalent for 6GB is based on paying $45 for a three-month plan. The monthly equivalent is useful for comparing costs, but it does not mean you pay only $15 each month. Mint Family is intended for two or more lines; however, a Tom’s Guide comparison from 2026 notes that discounts on multiple lines are minimal. Compare what both lines cost together and verify the renewal amount at checkout, especially if the price you see applies to an introductory term.

Choose Visible when unlimited data matters more than the lowest bill

Visible’s plans start at $25 per month and include taxes and fees, according to its current carrier materials accessed in 2026. This is a monthly prepaid option on Verizon’s network, not a $25 two-line bundle. Compare the cost of both lines and the exact tier’s terms before signing up. Hotspot speed and allowances differ across Visible’s plans, so do not assume that a higher-tier benefit applies to the base plan.

Compare flat-price plans by doubling the single-line cost

Some providers price each line independently rather than offering a meaningful family discount. In its August 2026 comparison, US Mobile says its Starter plan costs $50 per month for two lines and describes flat per-line pricing for US Mobile, Visible, Mint’s monthly offer, and Tello. Treat that provider-authored comparison as a lead, not independent testing, and confirm live checkout totals.

How to compare the real cost of two lines

  1. Add both lines and every required charge. Compare the two-line total, not just the per-line headline price. Include taxes, carrier fees, activation charges, and required add-ons. Some prices include taxes and fees; others do not.
  2. Check when and how you pay. Separate monthly recurring charges from multi-month or annual prepayment. If a price is introductory, find the renewal price before committing.
  3. Match data to each person. Estimate each user’s normal monthly use separately. Check the high-speed data allowance and what service or speeds apply after it is used.
  4. Read hotspot terms for the selected tier. Confirm whether hotspot is included, its data allowance, and any speed cap. These terms can differ even within one provider’s lineup.
  5. Check coverage where both people use their phones. Look at home, work, commute, and regular travel locations for each user. Nationwide coverage claims do not establish indoor reception at a particular address.
  6. Confirm switching details. Before ordering, check that both phones are compatible, how number transfers work, whether SIM or eSIM is available, and whether a port-in promotion is required. These details can vary by provider and offer.

Why the cheapest plan may not be the best for both people

A low per-line price can conceal costs or constraints that matter more than the headline. A tax-extra plan may have a higher final bill than expected; a prepayment offer ties up several months’ cost at once; and a limited-data plan can be a poor fit if either person routinely uses more than the allowance. Unlimited plans avoid a simple monthly data cap, but they are not necessarily identical in hotspot speed or other network terms.

Coverage is also personal. The available plan information does not establish a nationwide winner for an unspecified address. Check both users’ likely locations and, where possible, rely on location-specific coverage information rather than choosing solely by carrier name.
