Is the be quiet! Silent Loop 2 280mm worth buying, and will it fit your CPU and case? It is a well-specified 280mm liquid cooler with broad mainstream Intel and AMD socket support, a refill port and a manufacturer-listed three-year warranty. The best independent performance evidence available here is HEXUS’s review from 2021, so it shows how the cooler performed on that test system—not how it compares with 2026 coolers. Whether it makes sense now depends on your case clearance, socket, and current local price.

What the Silent Loop 2 280mm is

The exact model reviewed here is the black be quiet! Silent Loop 2 280mm, article number BW011. It is a closed-loop liquid cooler built around a 280mm-class radiator and two 140mm fans. The radiator is aluminum; the cold plate is copper with nickel plating.

Check your CPU socket and mounting hardware

be quiet! lists support for Intel LGA 1700, 1200, 2066, 1150, 1151, 1155 and 2011(-3) Square ILM, plus AMD AM5 and AM4. AMD sTRX4 and TR4 require the optional BZ008 mounting kit. Confirm that your exact processor platform and the cooler’s mounting hardware match the manufacturer’s compatibility information before ordering; socket families and mounting requirements can vary by platform and market.

be quiet! Silent Loop 3 360mm AiO ARGB Liquid CPU Cooler, for Overclocking
  • Powerful 3-chamber pump design significantly reduces turbulences and noise
  • Dampened and adjustable pump with 6-pole motor
  • 3 Silent Wings 4 120mm PWM high-speed fans with radiator corners for virtually inaudible operation
  • Incredibly high cooling performance with engineered cooling block
  • Wide CPU plate coverage with threadripper support

HEXUS found installation on AM4 straightforward in its 2021 review, but noted that it used replacement brackets secured with standoffs rather than the default AMD hooks. Its review also notes the optional kit requirement for Threadripper platforms. That installation account is useful context, not a guarantee for every motherboard or socket revision. Read the HEXUS review alongside the official compatibility listing.

Measure the case before buying

Check the case manual for support at your intended radiator position, then compare its available space with the full radiator-and-fan envelope: 314 × 140 × 52mm. The 140 × 317 × 27mm radiator-only dimensions do not include the fans, so using those alone can understate the clearance needed. Also check nearby motherboard heatsinks, memory, graphics hardware and the planned tube route; the tubes are 400mm long. The product specification cannot establish whether the assembly will fit a particular case or orientation.

What the 2021 independent test found

HEXUS reviewer Parm Mann published the review on 28 April 2021. The results are historical and limited to HEXUS’s system and procedure; they should not be read as a present-day ranking or a direct comparison with coolers released since then.

Stock CPU workload

HEXUS tested with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, which the review identifies as a 105W CPU, on an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Formula motherboard in a Fractal Design Define 7 case. The radiator was mounted at the top with fans exhausting upward. For the stock test, HEXUS measured average CPU temperature during the final five minutes of a 100% Cinebench R23 load. It found all three compared coolers capable, with the two 280mm liquid coolers holding a slight edge over the Noctua NH-U12A dual-fan air cooler. HEXUS described idle operation as barely audible and load noise as a smooth, agreeable hum.

Overclocked workload

For the overclocked run, HEXUS set a 45x all-core multiplier and 1.25V, producing 200W CPU power in that setup. The two 280mm liquid coolers were closely matched and stayed below 80°C in HEXUS’s test. The review said the be quiet! cooler’s noise output aligned with the brand’s low-noise positioning on its platform.

HEXUS used default out-of-box cooler settings, set motherboard fan headers to the Asus BIOS “Silent” profile, and used an extended Cinebench R23 run. It recorded CPU temperature and used a PCE-318 meter for whole-system noise at idle and load. The published findings therefore describe that CPU, case, configuration and method—not a universal temperature or noise result. The HEXUS test-method page and performance results provide further detail.

Noise, lighting and refill features

be quiet! specifies fan noise of 14.8 dB(A) at 50% RPM, 25.2 dB(A) at 75% RPM, and 32.6 dB(A) at 100% RPM. These are the manufacturer’s figures, not measurements from a comparable independent laboratory test. In practice, perceived noise also depends on fan settings, case, pump operation and other system components.

The fans and pump have separate connections: the fans use PWM, while the pump is listed with a 3-pin connector and a 9V–12V adjustment range. ARGB motherboard synchronization requires a 3-pin 5V addressable connection; do not confuse it with a 12V RGB header. The included wired ARGB controller offers an alternative control route according to the product specification.

A refill port and the included 100ml coolant bottle make coolant top-up possible. That is an ownership feature, not evidence of a particular service life. The manufacturer lists a three-year warranty; HEXUS considered that shorter than some rivals in its 2021 review, a comparison that should not be treated as a statement about today’s market.

Is it worth buying?

The Silent Loop 2 280mm is worth considering if your case accommodates the full 314 × 140 × 52mm assembly, your socket is supported, and its current local price is attractive against alternatives. HEXUS’s dated test suggests it was capable on a 105W stock Ryzen 9 5950X and a 200W overclocked configuration, with a close result against the Corsair iCue H115i Elite Capellix in the latter test. That does not establish how it ranks against newer coolers or what it should cost now.

Compare it with a 280mm AIO such as the Corsair model in HEXUS’s test if you want liquid cooling and your case has radiator clearance. A tower air cooler such as the Noctua NH-U12A avoids radiator placement and may suit a case with limited radiator space, but needs its own motherboard and memory clearance checks. For any comparison, prioritize results from the same CPU power and test method, then weigh noise, mounting support, warranty, and the current price where you live. HEXUS’s 2021 review is not a current head-to-head.

Before purchase, confirm the exact listing is BW011, verify socket and case fit, and check the current local price and stock. Neither a current street price nor current availability is established here, so a value verdict has to remain conditional.
