Yes—Bayonetta 3 is worth playing if you want expressive, spectacle-heavy action on Nintendo Switch. Its combat offers plenty of weapons and combos to explore, and a reviewer praised its replayability. The main reservation is that the Switch can struggle during the game’s more ambitious moments, according to that reviewer; this is an individual assessment, not a frame-rate measurement.

What is Bayonetta 3?

Bayonetta 3 is a Nintendo Switch action game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Nintendo. It released on 28 October 2022, according to Nintendo UK and PlatinumGames.

Nintendo’s spoiler-light premise centers on Bayonetta confronting the Homunculi across locations including Tokyo and China. The game also introduces Viola as a new playable character. PlatinumGames describes the genre as “climax action.”

How does the combat hold up?

The clearest reason to play is the combat’s range for experimentation. In a 2026 Switch-games roundup, TechRadar reviewer Rhys Wood praised its weapons, combos, collectibles, and ranking system, writing: “Endlessly satisfying combat, tons of weapons and combos, bags of collectibles and a firm-but-fair ranking system make Bayonetta 3 highly replayable. Sadly, the Nintendo Switch struggles to keep up, often taking the shine out of the game’s more ambitious moments.”

#1 Best Overall

That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a technical benchmark or proof that performance is consistent across every sequence. It captures the trade-off to consider: the action can be rewarding to revisit, while its most ambitious moments may be less polished in motion on Switch.

Who is Bayonetta 3 for?

It is a strong fit for Switch owners who want action built around varied weapons, combos, and replayable combat. Existing series players have a new entry featuring Bayonetta and playable newcomer Viola. If technical smoothness during the biggest set pieces matters more to you than combat variety, the reported Switch performance caveat is worth weighing before you buy.

Is Bayonetta 3 worth playing?

For players drawn to expressive action and room to improve or experiment, yes. The most relevant caution is the Switch presentation in ambitious moments, as described by TechRadar reviewer Rhys Wood; the available assessment is subjective rather than a measured performance test. PlatinumGames also says the game won Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2022.
