Microsoft made the tab generally available on July 1, 2024, so it is an established feature rather than a new 2026 launch. For deeper connection-quality telemetry, administrators must configure host-pool diagnostics separately and send the data to a Log Analytics workspace.
What the Connection Reliability tab shows
Connection Reliability helps administrators examine disconnection patterns across concurrent connections. This can reveal clusters of disconnects that warrant investigation. Administrators can also pivot connection errors by details such as client version and IP range to look for patterns associated with a particular client build or network range. Microsoft describes the tab as a way to analyze connection resilience and disconnection events: Microsoft’s July 1, 2024 announcement.
The tab can help narrow down where to investigate, but the described views do not establish a cause by themselves. Treat a pattern as a lead to verify against the relevant client, host, or network conditions.
Connection Reliability and connection-quality telemetry are different
The Connection Reliability tab is an AVD Insights feature for examining disconnection patterns. Microsoft also documents diagnostic data categories that provide underlying connection-quality information. These are related, but they are not the same feature or availability status.

| Capability or data category | What it is used for | Availability stated by Microsoft |
|---|---|---|
| Connection Reliability tab | Review disconnection patterns and inspect connection errors using details such as client version and IP range. | Generally available as of July 1, 2024. |
| Network data | Includes estimated round-trip time, which can help investigate network contributions to a poor connection experience. | Microsoft documents it as host-pool diagnostic data; no preview label is stated on the cited collection page. |
| Connection Graphics Data Logs | Provides performance data from the AVD graphics stream, useful when investigating slow or choppy experiences. | Preview, according to Microsoft’s current connection-quality documentation. |
Microsoft says connection-quality telemetry can help administrators investigate factors across the server, client, and network. It does not by itself establish a universal latency threshold or guarantee a particular improvement. See Microsoft’s connection-quality documentation and its diagnostics and Log Analytics documentation for the documented data categories and workflow.
How to configure connection-quality diagnostics
For the documented telemetry workflow, configure diagnostics on each host pool whose data you want to collect. Microsoft recommends sending AVD Insights data to a Log Analytics workspace.
Rank #2
- In the Azure portal, open the host pool and select Diagnostic settings.
- Create a diagnostic setting or edit an existing one.
- Select allLogs, or select the desired Network Data and Connection Graphics Data Preview tables.
- Choose the Log Analytics workspace as the destination and save the setting.
- Repeat these steps for each host pool you want to measure.
Microsoft lists an existing host pool with session hosts and a workspace configured for AVD Insights among the prerequisites for Insights use cases. Its connection-quality setup guidance notes that network data can take up to 15 minutes to appear in the portal. Queries also require users who have previously connected to sessions; newly configured diagnostics are not a substitute for connection activity.
When to use each view
- Start with Connection Reliability when the issue is repeated or clustered disconnections and you need to inspect patterns by connection details.
- Use Network data when you need diagnostic telemetry such as estimated round-trip time to investigate a network contribution.
- Use Connection Graphics Data Logs cautiously when examining graphics-stream performance; Microsoft currently marks this data collection as preview.
Active sessions over time are important for making informed decisions from Insights, as Microsoft notes in its AVD Insights documentation. A missing or sparse pattern may reflect limited connection history rather than proof that a host pool is healthy.

Availability timeline
- April 29, 2024: AVD Insights version 3.3.1 introduced previews for connection reliability and autoscale reporting.
- July 1, 2024: Version 3.5.0 marked connection reliability generally available, and Microsoft announced the Connection Reliability tab as generally available.
- September 2022: Microsoft described collection of connection graphics data through Azure Log Analytics as preview; the current connection-quality documentation still labels Connection Graphics Data Logs as preview.
These dates distinguish the established Insights tab from the separately configured telemetry and its preview-labeled graphics data. Microsoft’s release history is available in the AVD Insights documentation.
