AWS has introduced partner-facing Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) pathways for building and demonstrating agentic AI delivery skills. CRN reported on October 6, 2026, that the framework has three pathways—Ground, Orchestrate, and Prove—and two credential levels: FDE Validated and FDE Advanced. The separate $1 billion figure refers to AWS’s own FDE organization, not a reported partner funding pool.
What AWS’s partner FDE pathways cover
The pathways divide production agentic AI work into three capability areas, according to CRN’s October 6, 2026 report.

AWS’s channel chief, Ruba Borno, described the partner effort as developing training, competencies, methodology, and approaches intended to create an FDE motion rather than repeat the same business model partners previously pursued.
What FDE Validated and FDE Advanced mean
CRN reports that each pathway has two credential levels: FDE Validated and FDE Advanced. The credentials are described as technical capability pathways, not fixed job titles or a separate delivery model.

The report says candidates demonstrate capability through hands-on validation in AWS-provisioned environments, rather than relying solely on course completion or multiple-choice tests. It does not publish a complete official assessment syllabus, eligibility rules, or the thresholds that distinguish Validated from Advanced. Partners should confirm current criteria and availability with AWS before planning enrollment or representing a credential as proof of a specific level of expertise.
What the $1 billion investment does—and does not—cover
AWS announced a dedicated Forward Deployed Engineering organization backed by a $1 billion investment, with AWS engineers working alongside customer teams to build AI-powered applications. The investment is attached to AWS’s own organization; neither the CRN report nor AWS’s Newsroom announcement on LinkedIn identifies it as a grant, partner fund, or budget for the credentials.

The partner pathways are presented as a way for partners to develop and demonstrate capabilities associated with AWS’s FDE approach. That is distinct from saying partners receive part of the $1 billion.
How to read AWS’s “Live in 45” framing
Borno described a customer goal of receiving value in 45 days, using the phrase “Live in 45.” This is AWS’s stated program framing, not a reported average, independently verified result, or guarantee for every customer. Project timing will depend on the customer’s systems, data, scope, and implementation needs; the available reporting does not provide outcome data that would establish typical delivery times.

What the announcement signals for AWS partners
The framework gives partners a shared way to organize agentic AI delivery skills across enterprise context, orchestration, and evaluation. Caylent CTO Randall Hunt said production agentic AI requires depth across those areas and described the pathways as a framework for developing capabilities and assigning expertise to customer engagements. Those are statements from a partner executive, not independent evidence that the credentials improve production outcomes.
CRN also reported Intuitive.AI CEO Jay Modh’s account that his firm deployed 42 FDE resources in one month on large Fortune 100 projects. That figure describes one executive’s account of one firm’s staffing, not an industry-wide benchmark or a measure of credential effectiveness.

No independent outcome statistic in the available reporting establishes whether holding either credential increases production success. The practical value for a partner will depend on the capability it helps build and demonstrate, and on AWS’s current assessment criteria.
