Avast announced a free cybersecurity training quiz for small businesses on 26 July 2023. It covers data security, identity management, and social media security; individuals and businesses can take it, and learners receive confirmation after passing a module. It is a foundational awareness resource—not a substitute for security policies or technical protections.
What the quiz covers
The quiz is divided into three focus modules:
- Data Security: incidents, breaches, and practical data-security best practices for business.
- Identity Management: identity-management concepts, best practices, and access control.
- Social Media Security: social-media risks and security best practices.
That scope makes the quiz relevant to common employee behaviors, including handling business information, managing access, and using social platforms safely. Avast’s launch article describes it as available to individuals as well as businesses, with confirmation provided when a module is passed. The announcement does not establish a particular credential or certification beyond that confirmation. Avast’s 26 July 2023 announcement
Why employee awareness matters to small businesses
Avast framed phishing and scams as important concerns for small businesses. Its launch article cited a May 2023 survey of 1,005 U.S. adults conducted on behalf of Gen: 65% said they wished they knew more about spotting or avoiding phishing scams. This is a survey finding about U.S. adults’ self-reported wishes, not a measured phishing rate among businesses or employees.
Massimo Rapparini, General Manager & Head of SMB at Gen, said: “Raising awareness about the many threats to small businesses and educating customers on cybersecurity is a vital part of helping small businesses remain safe and protected,”

How to use the quiz as part of security training
A small business can use the modules as an accessible starting point for employee awareness. To make the training useful in practice, connect each subject to the rules and processes employees should follow at work:
- For data security, explain how staff should handle sensitive business and customer information and whom to notify about a suspected incident.
- For identity management, reinforce approved account access practices and the organization’s process for granting or removing access.
- For social media security, set expectations for business accounts and for avoiding risky disclosures or interactions.
The quiz does not itself provide endpoint protection, enforce access controls, manage software updates, or establish an organization’s policies. Treat it as one awareness component alongside appropriate technical safeguards and clear internal procedures.

The training quiz is a free educational resource, not a product subscription. Avast’s current small-business page lists three business security offerings. Avast describes centralized online management and endpoint protection across the lineup, with VPN/privacy tools in Premium and patch-management automation in Ultimate. These products address technical protection and administration rather than replacing employee training.
| Offering | What Avast’s current small-business page describes |
|---|---|
| Essential Business Security | Centralized online management and endpoint protection. |
| Premium Business Security | Centralized online management and endpoint protection, plus VPN/privacy tools. |
| Ultimate Business Security | Centralized online management and endpoint protection, plus VPN/privacy tools and patch-management automation. |
Those are feature descriptions, not a recommendation for a particular business. The right controls depend on the organization’s devices, data, administration needs, and existing safeguards. Avast says Avast Free Antivirus and Avast Premium Security are for private, personal, and non-commercial use, and directs business customers to its business offerings.
