At launch, the report said residents could sign up through the company’s official WeChat account, but the available sources do not confirm whether the service accepts riders today or provide current routes, fares, hours, or booking steps.
How Shenzhen residents accessed the 2021 pilot
A Pingshan District government page, crediting Shenzhen Daily, reported on April 12, 2021 that residents could sign up through AutoX’s official WeChat account, AutoX_AI (“AutoX无人驾驶”). Pilot users could use AutoX membership credits. This describes the launch-era process; it is not confirmation that the account still accepts ride requests.
The same report said AutoX’s operations center in Pingshan had opened on January 28, 2021. AutoX’s own company timeline also places an early-bird passenger program in 2021.
What “fully driverless” meant in the report
The launch report described rides without an accompanying in-car safety driver or a remote operator. It separately said passengers could contact a customer-support agent during the journey. Customer support should not be confused with someone remotely driving the vehicle.
Vehicle and reported driving examples
The vehicle was identified as a Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The report’s description of a demonstration video said it showed the vehicle navigating around other road users, yielding to pedestrians and workers, and making unprotected left turns and lane changes. Those are reported examples from a demonstration, not an independent assessment of the service’s performance.
Service area and driverless zone are different figures
The reported geographic figures use different dates and describe different things. In February 2022, Shenzhen Government Online, crediting Shenzhen Daily, reported that AutoX had announced a fleet of more than 1,000 RoboTaxi vehicles and a service area exceeding 1,000 square kilometers. The fleet number was a company announcement reported by the outlet, not a government fleet audit.
In a March 22, 2023 company post, AutoX again described its Shenzhen service area as more than 1,000 square kilometers, but specified that fully driverless operation covered a 168-square-kilometer zone. The wider service-area figure should not be read as proof that fully driverless rides operated across all of that area.
Shenzhen’s vehicle targets were goals, not results
A Shenzhen Municipal Government Office implementation plan published on November 14, 2022 set targets of more than 100 autonomous taxis by the end of 2023 and “one city, one thousand vehicles” by the end of 2025. These were policy targets; the plan does not establish that either target was achieved.

Can the public ride an AutoX RoboTaxi in Shenzhen now?
The cited material documents the 2021 public pilot and company or government descriptions through 2023. It does not establish current rider availability, whether the WeChat sign-up route still works, or today’s routes, fares, hours, or eligibility rules. A rider would need current confirmation from AutoX or a current official service listing before relying on the historical launch details.
