1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf you use Atlassian Server, support ended on February 15, 2024 PT. If you use an affected Atlassian Data Center product, its end-of-life date is March 28, 2029 at 23:59 PST. The Data Center phase-down is already underway: new-customer sales restrictions began in March 2026, while existing customers can buy new subscriptions, apps and expansions through March 30, 2028 at 23:59 PST. Before you migrate, confirm which product and app you use, preserve both source and destination data where applicable, and plan recovery for the specific migration—not an assumed one-click rollback.
What’s the deadline to migrate Atlassian Data Center?
Atlassian’s Data Center End of Life FAQ sets different dates for sales restrictions and product end of life. The dates below apply to impacted products and associated Marketplace apps; they are not a single deadline for every Atlassian product.
| Date and time | What changes | Who or what it affects |
|---|---|---|
| March 30, 2026, 23:59 PST | New customers can no longer buy new impacted Data Center subscriptions or new Marketplace Data Center apps. | New customers. This sales restriction has taken effect. |
| March 30, 2028, 23:59 PST | Existing customers’ ability to buy new Data Center subscriptions, Marketplace apps and expansions ends. | Existing customers. |
| March 28, 2029, 23:59 PST | Impacted subscriptions and associated apps expire, and the products and apps become read-only. | Customers using affected products and apps. |
Products covered by the phase-down
Atlassian lists Jira Software Data Center, Jira Service Management Data Center, Confluence Data Center, Bamboo Data Center, Crowd Data Center, Data Center mobile apps, Atlassian Data Center apps and Marketplace apps for affected products. Check the exact product and app you rely on before applying these dates to your environment.
Exceptions and support through end of life
Bitbucket Data Center is not scheduled to reach end of life; Atlassian says existing customers will have access to a Bitbucket Hybrid License for Data Center and Cloud. Jira Align Data Center is also excluded. Atlassian says it will provide technical support, critical-vulnerability security bug fixes and Data Center-to-Cloud connectors through March 28, 2029. Any extended maintenance after that date is a case-by-case possibility, not a standard entitlement or guaranteed extension.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What happens when my Data Center subscription expires?
At the affected products’ end of life, Atlassian says subscriptions and associated Marketplace apps expire and become read-only. Users can access existing data, but they cannot add data or carry out normal new actions. Read-only access is not equivalent to continued full use, and Atlassian’s migration guidance warns against leaving an unsupported read-only instance connected to the internet.
Atlassian advises keeping backups for long-term access to historical data. Because support and updates end at end of life, treat continued operation as a risk and plan how you will preserve, migrate or otherwise access the information your organization needs.
Can I renew my Data Center license?
For an impacted Data Center product, Atlassian distinguishes renewal of an existing subscription from buying a new subscription or expanding an existing one.

| Action | Atlassian’s stated timing | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|
| Renew an existing subscription | Existing customers may renew through end of life, but a renewal cannot extend beyond March 28, 2029 at 23:59 PST. | A term that would cross the cutoff may be prorated to end on the end-of-life date. |
| Buy a new subscription, Marketplace app or expansion | Existing customers may do so through March 30, 2028 at 23:59 PST. | This purchase window closes before the product end-of-life date. |
Server has a separate, earlier support cutoff: Atlassian ended Server support and bug fixes on February 15, 2024 PT. Its Server FAQ recommends moving to Cloud or upgrading to Data Center for continued support, and says Server customers with expired maintenance can use a free 60-day Cloud Migration Trial. Do not apply the Data Center dates to Server or mistake the Server cutoff for the Data Center end of life.

Atlassian’s current migration FAQ also refers to Cloud trials, step-up credits for qualified customers, possible dual licensing for larger customers and Cloud Enterprise discounts subject to eligibility and purchase timing. These are account-specific and can change; confirm current terms with Atlassian before using them in a budget or migration decision.
How do I back up before an Atlassian migration?
Protect the source and destination
Atlassian’s lift-and-shift guidance recommends backing up the Data Center instance before migration. If the Cloud destination already contains data, back that site up too. A migration plan should identify what is included in each backup, who can restore it and which recovery steps apply to the product and migration method.

For Confluence Cloud, distinguish the service’s routine backups from a customer-controlled export. Atlassian says its routine service backups are for application recovery and cannot roll back application data changes. A site administrator can create and download a backup export; only one backup file is stored at a time, and creating another overwrites the existing one. Download and safely retain the export you need rather than treating routine service recovery as your rollback copy.
Test the migration and document the runbook
Atlassian recommends a test migration before production; a complex project may need more than one. Use a written runbook that covers preparation, testing, production cutover and post-launch support, and records actions, durations and downtime. Allow extra time for testing and include any required upgrades, cleanup, archiving and backups.
Atlassian’s 2024 Cloud Migration Checklist gives the following planning estimates. They are estimates, not guaranteed durations:

The same checklist recommends lift-and-shift for organizations above 10,000 users and a Solution Partner for migrations above 1,000 users. For a large or complex move, partner assistance may help with planning and execution; Atlassian’s recommendation does not establish that any particular partner is suitable for your environment.
Assess apps, configuration and the target environment
Inventory Marketplace and other apps before choosing a migration path. For each one, determine whether it is available in Cloud, still needed and replaceable if necessary. Atlassian’s free Jira and Confluence Cloud Migration Assistants can assess the app landscape and move projects, content, users and groups. They do not check for every possible issue or migrate every configuration, so follow the product- and method-specific checklist and validate results in a test or staging Cloud site.
Use the assessment to compare deployment and compliance requirements, data residency, security, source-code sensitivity, feature and app availability, licensing costs, user count, downtime and recovery capability. A Cloud move is not automatically the right fit for every organization; confirm that the target meets your technical and organizational requirements before committing to production cutover.

Can I roll back an Atlassian migration?
There is no general promise of an automatic or one-click rollback for an Atlassian Cloud migration. Atlassian’s lift-and-shift guidance supports testing first, protecting the source and any populated destination, and defining cutover and post-launch support in the runbook. It does not guarantee that a migration can be reversed or that changes made after cutover can be merged back into the source.
Confluence Data Center version upgrades are a different case
For a Confluence Data Center version upgrade, Atlassian Support’s rollback article, updated October 28, 2025, says Atlassian does not provide a tool to downgrade or roll back to a previous version. Its documented recovery method requires a pre-upgrade backup and restoration of the database and relevant Confluence home, shared home and installation directories. This procedure concerns a Confluence Data Center upgrade; it is not a universal recipe for reversing a Cloud migration.
Agree on recovery before production cutover
For your specific product and migration method, document what triggers recovery, what data will be restored, who performs the steps and how users will be directed during the change. Test the recovery approach where practical. Decide in advance how you will handle work created after cutover, because the cited general migration guidance does not promise that post-cutover changes can be merged back automatically.
