Atlant Security is a free WordPress plugin with a wide range of security, monitoring, and recovery features, but its feature list is not proof of protection. Its web application firewall (WAF) runs early in WordPress request handling—not before WordPress loads—and the plugin is designed for single-site installations. It may be worth evaluating if you want multiple controls in one plugin, provided you check its settings, integrations, and update history before relying on it.
What Atlant Security includes
The WordPress.org listing describes 17 integrated security modules arranged across five layers: early-request filtering, application-aware controls, content and configuration hardening, outbound monitoring and data scanning, and response and recovery. The module count and functions below are publisher-described capabilities, not independently measured security results.
Request, login, and access controls
- A WordPress-level WAF, with 28+ attack-pattern families listed by the publisher.
- Progressive login lockouts, two-factor authentication, honeypots, session controls, and rate limiting.
- REST API policies and security-header controls.
- AI crawler management. The listing says defaults were changed to allow legitimate vendor bots unless an administrator opts to block them.
Scanning, monitoring, and recovery
- Local file and database malware scanning, with 38 malware signatures listed.
- Outbound request monitoring, cron monitoring, visitor and audit logs, and notifications.
- Hardening toggles and 12 emergency recovery actions listed by the publisher.
These counts describe the listing, not detection rates, attack prevention, or recovery success. The available evidence does not establish an independent benchmark or security-effectiveness figure for Atlant Security.
When its WAF runs—and what that means
Do not read “early” as “before WordPress.” The plugin’s changelog corrects earlier “Pre-WordPress WAF” wording: Atlant Security inspects requests at WordPress init priority 0, after WordPress core and plugin files have loaded, but before the page is queried or rendered. That makes it an early-request WordPress WAF, not a server-level firewall or a control that filters requests before WordPress starts. For the lifecycle clarification and current feature description, see the WordPress.org listing and changelog.

Compatibility and installation fit
As listed on WordPress.org on October 4, 2026, Atlant Security requires WordPress 6.0 or higher and PHP 8.0 or higher. The listing describes it as designed for single-site WordPress installations and says multisite support is planned, not currently supported. These details can change; check the live plugin listing before installing or updating.
External connections depend on your settings
The publisher says core operation has no telemetry, but that does not mean every configuration makes no external connections. The listing documents optional or conditional integrations, including:
- Fetching IP range lists from Cloudflare, Google, or Microsoft, depending on configuration.
- Downloading a GeoLite2 database from MaxMind when configured.
- Calling WordPress.org APIs for core checksums or key rotation.
- Sending alert content to an administrator-configured webhook.
- Loading reCAPTCHA or Cloudflare Turnstile resources when CAPTCHA protection is enabled.
Review the listing’s descriptions of data sent for each integration, then enable only the services you intend to use. “No telemetry” should not be treated as a blanket promise that no third-party service will be contacted.
Scanning and day-to-day operation
The listing says malware scans run in AJAX batches and skip files larger than 5 MB. It recommends reducing the batch size if scans are slow on shared hosting. The plugin’s ability to run a scan does not establish that it will find every threat; its listed 38 signatures are a feature count, not a coverage guarantee.

If your host blocks WordPress’s default email delivery, the listing recommends using an SMTP plugin for notifications. Plan to check how scanning and alerts behave on your hosting setup rather than assuming every host handles them identically.
Updates, defaults, and security history
The WordPress.org changelog records a release described as fixing 14 critical and 12 high-severity findings from an external audit. It also records later fixes involving login behavior, SSRF handling, session controls, malware-scanner false positives, and other features. The listing does not provide enough information to assess the audit’s scope or methodology, so the changelog is useful maintenance context—not independent assurance that the plugin is secure.
Rank #4
Defaults can affect access and usability. For example, the changelog says IP binding was turned off for new installations because mobile networks, VPNs, and changing IP addresses could cause repeated logouts. Review the current settings and release notes after installation or updates; enabling every control without considering its effect can create avoidable problems.

WordPress.org reviewer Julian Song wrote on September 19, 2026, “Atlant Security is one of the most complete free WordPress security plugins I have tried,” while also cautioning that “it deserves careful configuration rather than switching everything on blindly.” These are one user’s opinions, not comparative testing or evidence of security effectiveness. Other directory reviews are likewise individual testimonials; they can offer perspective but cannot establish how Atlant performs across sites or against alternatives.

How to decide whether to try it
Atlant Security may suit a single-site administrator looking for a broad collection of controls in a free plugin. Before making it part of your security setup, check the current compatibility requirements, confirm that your site is not multisite, review its changelog, and understand which optional integrations and protections you plan to enable. Treat it as one application-level tool within a wider security approach, rather than as a server- or network-level firewall or a verified substitute for other safeguards.
