You supply compatible M.2 2280 NVMe SSDs, so include their cost and capacity in your budget. Its dual 2.5GbE ports and compact all-SSD design may suit a fast local network, but the network and client devices must also support the speeds you want.
What the Flashstor 6 FS6706T includes
ASUSTOR lists an Intel Celeron N5105 processor, with four cores running at 2.0 GHz and burst speeds up to 2.90 GHz. The system comes with 4 GB of DDR4-2933 SO-DIMM memory, has two memory slots, and supports expansion up to 16 GB, according to the official hardware specifications.
For networking and connections, ASUSTOR specifies two 2.5-Gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0b, and S/PDIF. The ADM 5.1 datasheet identifies six M.2 PCIe NVMe slots for M.2 2280 drives.
Plan for the SSDs and usable capacity
The NAS’s six slots accept M.2 2280 NVMe drives; the drive compatibility and capacity decision is separate from choosing the NAS itself. The official material cited here establishes the form factor, but does not identify a specific currently validated SSD model. Check ASUSTOR’s live FS6706T product page and compatibility information before buying drives. Do not assume SSDs are included: confirm the contents of the package listing for your region and seller.

Before choosing drives, decide how much usable space you need and whether you want redundancy. The ADM 5.1 datasheet lists single, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6, RAID 10, and RAID 1 or RAID 5 with a hot spare as volume options. These layouts make different tradeoffs between capacity, redundancy, and drive use; choose one based on your recovery needs rather than treating every listed option as equivalent protection.
How fast is it?
ASUSTOR advertises 590 MB/s read and 583 MB/s write for the FS6706T under SMB Multichannel with RAID 5 and dual 2.5GbE. The company says those results came from its lab using state-of-the-art clients and optimized network settings, warns that performance may vary, and says ordinary desktop or notebook computers may not reproduce them. Treat the figures as a vendor test result, not a guaranteed speed or an independent benchmark. See the product overview for ASUSTOR’s stated conditions.

Two 2.5GbE ports do not mean that one typical client will automatically receive the combined headline throughput. The clients, network equipment, configuration, and workload all affect what a particular setup can achieve. ASUSTOR also markets 4K hardware transcoding and positions the NAS for media consumption and content creators; those claims alone do not establish performance for a specific codec, application, or editing workflow.
Where an all-M.2 NAS fits—and where it may not
The FS6706T is aimed at buyers who specifically want a six-slot, SSD-based NAS and can make use of its dual 2.5GbE connections. NVMe storage does not make every NAS task faster by itself: results depend on the network, clients, and workload, and the cited speed figures are ASUSTOR’s lab claims rather than an apples-to-apples comparison with another NAS.

If low cost per terabyte is the priority, calculate the full price of six compatible NVMe SSDs and compare the resulting capacity with NAS systems that accept larger conventional drives. That is a total-storage-cost comparison to make for your needs, not a claim that a particular alternative is cheaper.

Pre-purchase checklist
- Confirm the SSDs are M.2 2280 NVMe drives and check ASUSTOR’s current compatibility information for specific models.
- Price the NAS and the drives together; verify whether a particular package includes any storage.
- Work out the installed and usable capacity you need, then select a listed volume layout that fits your redundancy requirements.
- Check that your network equipment and clients support the connection and throughput you expect from dual 2.5GbE.
- If you plan to add hard drives through an AS6004U, confirm current compatibility and capacity conditions first.
- For a power reference, ASUSTOR’s ADM 5.1 datasheet lists 18.2 W in operation and 0.83 W in sleep mode. These are manufacturer specification figures, not measurements from an independent test.
