The ASUS Prime N100I-D D4 is a 17 × 17 cm Mini-ITX motherboard with an Intel N100 processor built in, so there is no CPU socket or separate processor to choose. Its compact, low-power design may suit a small desktop or light home server, but its one SO-DIMM slot, 16 GB published memory limit, single SATA port, and single M.2 storage socket are important constraints. ASUS describes the board as fanless; that refers to its processor cooling design, not a guarantee that every completed system can run without case airflow.

What is the ASUS Prime N100I-D D4?

It is a Mini-ITX motherboard measuring 17 × 17 cm (6.7 × 6.7 inches) with an onboard Intel Processor N100. Because the processor is integrated, this is not a socketed-CPU board: you cannot replace the N100 with a different desktop processor. ASUS lists Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 support. See the ASUS technical specifications and product overview.

That combination makes the board most relevant to builders seeking a compact system around an included processor. The specifications establish its connections and supported component categories, but do not establish performance for a particular workload.

What RAM does the N100I-D D4 use?

The board has one DDR4 SO-DIMM slot and ASUS specifies a maximum capacity of 16 GB. The listed memory is non-ECC, unbuffered DDR4, with supported data rates from 2133 to 3200 MT/s depending on memory and CPU configuration. Consult the ASUS specifications and support memory list for module compatibility before buying.

  • Ultrafast Connectivity: PCIe 5.0, two M.2 slots, Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, rear USB 5Gbps Type-A, front USB 5Gbps support
  • Comprehensive Cooling: VRM heatsink, PCH heatsink, hybrid fan headers and Fan Xpert 2+
  • Aura Sync RGB Lighting: Onboard Addressable Gen 2 headers for RGB LED strips, easily synced with Aura Sync-capable hardware

If you have seen the question of whether an Intel N100 can handle 32 GB of RAM, that general processor discussion does not override this board’s published limit. ASUS specifies up to 16 GB for the Prime N100I-D D4; the board-specific specification is the relevant purchasing guide.

How many drives can it connect?

For onboard storage, the board provides one M.2 Key M Socket 3 for a 2260 or 2280 PCIe 3.0 x2 device, plus one SATA 6 Gb/s port. ASUS gives the M.2 link a theoretical transfer rate of 16 Gbps and notes that actual transfer speeds will be lower. Check the SSD’s form factor and interface against the board specifications.

ASUS PRIME H610I-PLUS D4 LGA 1700(Intel 12th Gen&Intel vPro)mini ITX Motherboard(PCIe 4.0,DDR4,USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A,1Gb Lan,DP/HDMI/D-Sub,V-M.2(Key E),Q-LED,Mono-out header with amp IC,SPI TPM header)
  • Intel LGA 1700 socket: Ready for 12th Gen Intel processors
  • Comprehensive cooling: VRM heatsink, PCH heatsink and Fan Xpert
  • Ultrafast connectivity: PCIe 4.0, DDR4, 32Gbps M.2 slot, Realtek 1 Gb Ethernet, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and V-M.2 Key E slot for Wi-Fi

A builder can connect one SATA drive directly to the board. A build needing several SATA drives requires an expansion path, such as an appropriate adapter in the PCIe slot; check the adapter’s physical fit and compatibility rather than assuming any card will work. ASUS lists one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot and advises checking its supported peripheral list. The board also has a 24-pin main power connector and a 4-pin +12 V connector, so verify that the chosen power supply provides both.

Does the ASUS Prime N100I-D D4 have built-in Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not listed as built-in features of the board. It has a Key E slot that can accept an appropriate Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module, sold separately. ASUS lists support for Key E, CNVi, and PCIe interfaces; confirm that a particular module matches the slot and board requirements before purchase. Wired networking is provided by one Realtek 1 Gb Ethernet port. See the networking specifications.

  • Aura Sync RGB Lighting: Onboard Addressable Gen 2 headers and Aura RGB header for RGB LED strips, easily synced with Aura Sync-capable hardware

What display and other ports are available?

The board offers three display connections: DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA. ASUS specifies support up to 4K at 60 Hz for DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1; VGA is also listed. Which output is appropriate depends on the display and cable, so check the display’s supported input and resolution.

Rear USB consists of two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports rated at 10 Gb/s, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports rated at 5 Gb/s, and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports. Internal headers can add two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and two USB 2.0 ports; ASUS notes that the four Gen 1 ports share bandwidth. Other listed connections include COM and PS/2. Consult the full technical specification for connector-level details and case-header requirements.

Is the ASUS Prime N100I-D D4 actually fanless?

ASUS describes it as a low-power, fan-less motherboard and lists an onboard CPU heatsink. It also provides one 4-pin chassis-fan header with PWM/DC fan detection. In this context, fanless describes the processor cooling arrangement on the board; it does not mean that every case, drive, or workload will need no airflow. ASUS’s listed specifications do not establish workload-specific temperature or noise results, so case airflow should be considered for the whole build.

Which operating systems and package details should you check?

ASUS lists Windows 11 version 22H2 and later, and Windows 10 64-bit. Support for other operating systems is not established by those published compatibility details. The user guide lists two SATA cables, an I/O shield, M.2 screw packages, and a user guide among the package contents. Confirm the box contents with the retailer for the product and region you are buying.

Who should consider this board?

It is worth considering if an integrated Intel N100, Mini-ITX dimensions, multiple display outputs, legacy COM and PS/2 connections, and a fanless processor heatsink align with the build. It is a less natural fit if the design depends on more than 16 GB of RAM, several directly attached SATA drives, multiple expansion cards, or built-in wireless.

When comparing it with another integrated-CPU Mini-ITX board, compare the included processor, memory type and capacity, SATA and M.2 connections, PCIe lane width, networking, display and USB options, cooling arrangement, power inputs, and form factor. The specifications above describe this board’s limits; they do not establish superiority over a particular alternative.
