Is Asta a devil?
No. Asta is a human who was born without magic; Liebe is the devil associated with his five-leaf grimoire. The distinction matters because Asta’s swordsmanship and choices are his own, while anti-magic comes through his connection with Liebe. The official anime profile describes Asta as someone who “possesses absolutely no magic.” Asta’s official character profile also describes his swords as able to cut through and deflect magic.
Liebe is not presented as an overwhelmingly high-ranking devil. His official profile calls him the lowest-tier devil and says he was born without magic; it also says he hates Lucifero because Lucifero killed Licita. That background helps explain his hostility, but a formal devil tier is not a dependable forecast of what Liebe and Asta can accomplish together. It is equally important not to call devil hosts “devils.” Dante, Vanica, and Zenon are human hosts associated with devils. For example, the official profile assigns gravity magic to Lucifero and body magic and regeneration to Dante; Vanica is identified with blood magic and curse-warding, while Zenon is associated with bone and spatial attributes. Those listed host abilities should not be casually reassigned to the devils as though the host and devil were the same person.
What does anti-magic do—and what can’t it do?
Anti-magic is most consequential when it can meet magic: Asta’s swords can cut through or deflect it. This makes him unusually relevant against magical attacks and defenses. It does not establish that every attack is harmless to him, that every spell will be neutralized in every circumstance, or that he automatically wins against a physically dangerous opponent.

For readers tracking the progression, VIZ’s Volume 29 listing identifies the Devil Union milestone. The manga’s later conflicts should be considered in their own chronology rather than used to rewrite what Asta could do in the Shadow Palace.

Did Asta beat Megicula?
Megicula’s story is tied to Vanica, her host, and to Noelle’s family revenge—not to an Asta solo duel ending in a straightforward victory. The official Vanica profile identifies her blood attribute and curse-warding, and links the curses affecting Acier and Loropechika to that conflict. VIZ’s descriptions of the relevant volumes center Noelle’s role in the family-revenge storyline.
Anti-magic is a relevant thing to consider around curses because curses are magical threats, but the available publisher summaries do not verify the precise mechanics of how Asta’s anti-magic would interact with each of Megicula’s effects. It would be too broad to say that anti-magic automatically cancels every curse or that Asta personally wins the Megicula conflict. Can Asta beat Lucifero?

VIZ’s English paperback listing for Volume 37 is one later point in the manga’s English catalog.
