The ASRock Rack GNRD8-2L2T is a CEB-format, single-socket Intel Xeon 6 server motherboard aimed at builds that need dense PCIe expansion, onboard 10GbE and remote management. Its strongest selling points are seven physical PCIe 5.0/CXL 2.0 x16 slots, two PCIe 5.0 M.2 sockets, dual 10GbE and IPMI. The main buying caveats are equally concrete: slot availability depends on the processor, there are no onboard SATA ports, and the board’s size, airflow and power connections need to suit the whole system.

What the GNRD8-2L2T is—and who it suits

This is a server-focused CEB motherboard measuring 12 × 10.5 inches (305 × 267 mm), with one Intel Socket E2 (LGA4710). It is best suited to a single-socket server or workstation where high-speed add-in cards and remote administration matter more than a compact footprint or plentiful native SATA connections.

ServeTheHome reviewed the board on November 11, 2024, after using it for several weeks with an Intel Xeon 6780E. John Lee described the sample’s performance as close to, and slightly better than, a reference platform running in single-socket mode. The review passage provides no numerical benchmark results, so that is a qualitative observation—not a quantified performance guarantee. ServeTheHome’s GNRD8-2L2T review

The board’s value depends on the intended configuration. Seven full-length physical slots look impressive, but they do not guarantee that all seven will be available with every supported CPU. Likewise, two M.2 sockets make it straightforward to add NVMe storage, but they do not replace SATA connectivity for a drive-heavy build.

Which Xeon CPUs work with the GNRD8-2L2T?

ASRock Rack’s current product listing names Xeon 6700E-, 6700P- and 6500P-series support. The independent reviews date from November 2024 and predate the 6700P family, so their CPU lists are historical snapshots rather than a complete statement of current compatibility.

Before buying, check the manufacturer’s live CPU Support List and BIOS notes for the exact processor SKU and the board’s installed BIOS. Family-level support alone does not establish support for every individual model or BIOS revision.

How many PCIe slots are usable with your CPU?

The board has seven physical PCIe 5.0/CXL 2.0 x16 slots, plus an MCIO PCIe 5.0/CXL 2.0 x8 connection. That physical layout is not a promise that every slot is active in every system: ServeTheHome and Hardwareluxx report that slots two, four and seven require selected Xeon 6 R1S processors.

Check the exact CPU’s support details and the board documentation before planning a build around multiple accelerators, NICs or storage cards. Count only the slots supported by your chosen processor, and also check card dimensions and clearance in the intended chassis.

Storage: two M.2 sockets, but no onboard SATA

Two M-key PCIe 5.0 x4 sockets accept M.2 2280 or 22110 drives. ServeTheHome reports no onboard SATA ports. A build that needs SATA drives will therefore need an add-in storage controller, or a different motherboard with native SATA connectivity.

ServeTheHome also notes that the M.2 sockets use thumbscrew retention. For broader storage expansion, plan the required add-in cards against the CPU-dependent slot layout rather than assuming unused slots will be available.

Memory speed depends on the configuration

The board has eight DDR5 sockets in a one-DIMM-per-channel arrangement and supports RDIMMs and MRDIMMs. Do not treat one transfer rate as a universal maximum: Hardwareluxx’s 2024 specification table lists 6400 MT/s, while ASRock Rack’s Q2 2025 catalog reports up to 8000 MT/s in a qualified setup. Supported speed depends on factors including the processor, DIMM type, capacity and qualification; the catalog reports RDIMMs up to 128 GB each.

Use the manufacturer’s current memory QVL to confirm the specific module, capacity and speed for the selected CPU and BIOS. These are server memory types; do not assume consumer DDR5 UDIMMs are validated for this platform.

Networking and remote administration

Two Intel X710-AT2 10GbE RJ45 ports and two Intel i210 1GbE RJ45 ports provide multiple onboard network speeds without requiring an add-in NIC for those connections. Dedicated IPMI is intended for out-of-band administration. ServeTheHome reports that its reviewed board generation used an ASPEED AST2600 BMC and supported IPMI web management, HTML5 iKVM and remote media.

Those management capabilities can be useful when the server is deployed somewhere without routine physical access. Confirm the management network and security configuration as part of deployment rather than treating remote access as a substitute for securing the BMC.

Check chassis fit, airflow and power before ordering

At 305 × 267 mm, the CEB board needs a chassis that supports its mounting points and leaves room for its slot layout. ASRock Rack’s board layout is designed for front-to-rear airflow, so verify that the case, fans and CPU cooling solution provide an appropriate path through the system.

Hardwareluxx’s specification table lists one 24-pin ATX and four 8-pin EPS12V inputs. Confirm that the server PSU provides the required connectors and that the cooling and power-delivery plan matches the selected CPU and installed cards. Evaluate those requirements together with chassis clearances, not as a board-only fit check.

Verdict: strong I/O, with configuration checks that matter

The GNRD8-2L2T is a compelling fit for a single-socket Xeon 6 build that can use its dense high-speed expansion, onboard dual 10GbE and remote management. It is less straightforward for a SATA-heavy system or a design that assumes all seven x16 slots will work with any supported CPU. Check CPU and BIOS compatibility, slot availability, memory qualification, chassis fit, cooling and PSU connections before committing to the platform.
