Download ASRock Polychrome from the Support → Download page for your exact motherboard or graphics card model. ASRock does not offer one universal installer: the correct package and version depend on the hardware. The utility is currently listed as ASRock Polychrome RGB; manuals may call the same RGB-control workflow the ASRock Polychrome SYNC Utility.
Before installing the software, identify which ASRock product controls the lighting and whether the device you want to synchronize is compatible. A motherboard’s RGB and addressable RGB headers also use different electrical specifications, so choosing the correct download and making the correct physical connection are separate parts of setup.
Where can I download ASRock Polychrome?
Use the product’s own support page so you get the utility listed for that specific board or graphics card. ASRock also offers Polychrome through Live Update & APP Shop, but its model-specific Support page is the more authoritative place to confirm the right package. The page matters because Polychrome versions are not interchangeable simply because they have the same name or a similar interface.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDownload from the product page
- Open the exact ASRock motherboard or graphics-card product page. For example, ASRock’s H810M-H product page is one model-specific starting point.
- Choose Support, then Download.
- Find the listed ASRock Polychrome RGB utility and download the package offered for that product. Do not select a package just because its version number is higher than another model’s.
- Install the downloaded utility using the package’s instructions. The documentation identifies where to obtain the installer, but does not specify a universal installation wizard or identical setup steps for every model.
If you are comparing multiple pages or search results, check the full product model before downloading. A graphics card and a motherboard can both use Polychrome-related software, but the relevant package and any recovery firmware are tied to the exact hardware. Do not substitute a package for a similarly named board, a different graphics card, or a product in the same series.

Use Live Update & APP Shop as an alternative
You can install or open ASRock Live Update & APP Shop and obtain Polychrome there. If you are unsure whether the offered package is correct for your hardware, check the product’s own Support → Download page. ASRock’s software guide describes this alternate route and the utility workflow: ASRock Software and BIOS Setup Guide.
The two routes serve different purposes: APP Shop is an alternative way to obtain the utility, while the exact product page lets you verify that the download is listed for your board or card. If you have more than one ASRock product in the system, do not assume a utility listed for one is automatically the correct package for another. Start with the component whose lighting you need to control and confirm its product-specific listing.
Which version should I download?
Choose the version listed for your exact hardware model, not a version assumed to be universal. ASRock’s Latest Utilities Update index lists downloads by product model; current entries include Polychrome RGB versions 2.0.217 and 2.0.218, both shown with the date April 9, 2026.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Those entries illustrate why the model matters: ASRock lists different versions for different products, and the higher number is not automatically the right installer for every board or card. Open the matching product page and use its listed package. There is no single current universal Polychrome download or version. The utility index can help you see that model-specific versions differ, but it should not lead you to install a version listed for another product.
For an Intel Z890-series system, ASRock also documents a specific minimum-version case: if the LEDs do not function and changing Polychrome RGB settings in BIOS has no effect, use Polychrome RGB 2.0.190 or newer in the operating system. That is a targeted condition, not a general instruction to install 2.0.190 on every ASRock system. For other products, use the version listed for the exact model.
What “Polychrome SYNC” means
ASRock’s current utility listings use the name ASRock Polychrome RGB, while newer manuals may call the package the ASRock Polychrome SYNC Utility. “SYNC” also describes compatibility and synchronization branding. Seeing that term in a manual does not mean an older standalone SYNC package is the right download for every model; follow the exact product’s current download listing. ASRock describes the platform and compatible lighting at its Polychrome RGB page.
In practice, the naming difference is not a reason to look for a single installer that will work across all generations. Use the current product page to resolve the naming question: if it lists ASRock Polychrome RGB, that is the package to select for that product. A manual’s use of “SYNC Utility” describes the RGB-control workflow and does not override the model-specific download entry.

Why older download advice can mislead
A frequently repeated recommendation to download PolychromeSYNC(v1.0.18).zip as “the latest” comes from older forum guidance posted in 2021. ASRock’s current utility index lists newer 2.x packages for supported hardware, and its model-specific listings are the safer guide. Likewise, an older AM4 FAQ points to RGBLED(v1.0.12).zip, ASRock RGB LED Utility version 1.0.12, and advice about Wraith RGB connections. That FAQ is dated March 1, 2017, with the Wraith guidance dated April 1, 2017; it is legacy information, not a universal download for modern boards. See ASRock’s RGB support FAQ and the 2021 forum discussion.

What can Polychrome control?
Polychrome can control compatible lighting on the motherboard and synchronize supported memory, case lighting, fans, coolers, LED strips, power supplies, SSDs, and other accessories. Compatibility is not automatic just because a component has RGB: synchronization requires hardware identified as compatible with ASRock Polychrome SYNC or Polychrome Certified. ASRock describes compatible components and synchronization on its Polychrome RGB page.
This distinction helps set expectations. A component can light up when powered and still not be controllable or synchronizable through Polychrome. Check whether the accessory is identified as Polychrome SYNC-compatible or Polychrome Certified instead of treating “RGB” on a product label as a compatibility guarantee. The supported categories include memory, case lighting, fans, coolers, strips, PSUs, and SSDs, but the fact that a category is supported does not mean every product within it is certified.
Once installed, the interface provides an RGB LED switch for turning lighting on or off, a drop-down menu for selecting a lighting effect, a control to synchronize effects across motherboard LED regions, and a draggable tab for customization. ASRock does not document one fixed set of effects that applies to every product; the available choices depend on the model. The software guide describes these controls.
These controls are distinct from the question of whether a connected accessory is compatible. The LED switch and effect menu describe what the software interface can do; they do not change the electrical type of a header or make an unsupported accessory compatible. If an effect, region, or accessory does not appear as expected, check the exact product documentation and compatibility information rather than assuming every model has the same menu options.
How do I connect RGB or ARGB lighting safely?
Match the device and cable to the correct header before connecting anything: ASRock’s standard RGB header is 12V analog RGB, while its addressable header is 5V. They are electrically different and are not interchangeable. ASRock warns that a cable installed in the wrong orientation can damage the cable or connected motherboard components.
| Header type | ASRock specification | Maximum stated limit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard RGB | 5050 RGB, 12V/G/R/B | Up to 3A at 12V; strip length up to 2 meters |
| Addressable RGB | WS2812B, 5V/Data/GND | Up to 3A at 5V; strip length up to 2 meters |
These are the specifications in ASRock’s software and BIOS setup guide. Check the manual for your exact motherboard and the device’s own connector information before making a connection; do not infer compatibility from connector appearance alone. A three-pin addressable connection and a four-pin standard RGB connection are not alternative layouts for the same electrical signal.
The current and length figures are limits stated for the relevant header type. They are not a promise that any combination of strips, fans, splitters, or other accessories will be safe: the total load and the accessory’s specifications still matter. If the motherboard manual or the device documentation does not establish that the connection matches, do not connect it based on guesswork.

- Power off the computer and unplug the power supply before installing or removing an RGB cable.
- Confirm whether the accessory is standard RGB or addressable RGB and use the matching motherboard header.
- Align the cable with the header’s specified voltage and pin orientation. Do not force a connector that does not align.
- Stay within the header’s stated current and strip-length limits. The figures above are ASRock’s documented limits, not a guarantee that every accessory can be combined safely.
- Use the exact motherboard manual to verify which headers are present and how they are labeled; not every product has the same header layout.
Do not treat RGB and ARGB as interchangeable names for the same connection. ASRock’s specifications distinguish the standard 12V/G/R/B header from the 5V/Data/GND addressable header. Choosing the wrong type or orientation is a hardware risk, not merely a software setting that can be corrected later.
Why is my ASRock lighting not working?
Start with the exact product’s utility package and the physical lighting connection. If the installer is correct but the lights still do not respond, ASRock documents a few product-specific cases; those remedies should not be treated as universal fixes for every motherboard or graphics card. Separate the symptoms before changing anything: motherboard LED settings, a compatible accessory’s synchronization, an LCD controller, and RGB firmware recovery are different situations.
First confirm that you selected the model-specific utility and that the accessory is compatible with Polychrome SYNC or Polychrome Certified requirements. If the issue involves a newly connected strip or device, power down and recheck the header type, pin orientation, and stated limits against the board and accessory documentation. Do not use a firmware recovery procedure simply because lighting is not working; ASRock’s recovery steps below apply to specific hardware and problems.

Z890 motherboard LEDs do not respond
For an Intel Z890-series system where LED lighting does not function and changing Polychrome RGB settings in BIOS has no effect, ASRock specifies using Polychrome RGB version 2.0.190 or newer in the operating system. This minimum is for the stated Z890 scenario; use the version listed for your exact product where available. ASRock’s RGB support FAQ documents the condition.
The condition matters: the version guidance concerns Z890-series LEDs that remain nonfunctional despite changing the BIOS Polychrome settings. It should not be read as a claim that updating to that minimum fixes unrelated accessory, wiring, or compatibility problems.
Polychrome Display and SignalRGB both access an LCD controller
ASRock says Polychrome Display and SignalRGB should not be installed or running on the same system because simultaneous access to the LCD controller can cause LCD abnormalities, software instability, and communication errors. If you use SignalRGB, ASRock says to uninstall Polychrome Display; if you use Polychrome Display, uninstall SignalRGB and restart Windows first. This warning specifically concerns Polychrome Display and an LCD controller. It does not establish that every Polychrome RGB installation conflicts with SignalRGB in every configuration. The guidance is in ASRock’s RGB support FAQ.
Do not expand this warning into a general prohibition on every RGB-control setup. It names Polychrome Display, SignalRGB, and simultaneous access to the LCD controller. If the affected device is an LCD and one of these applications is installed, follow the applicable uninstall-and-restart direction rather than running both programs against the controller.

For the RGB-control problem ASRock identifies on the X570/B550 Taichi Razer Edition, its documented recovery procedure is specific to that firmware package:

- Download and extract the firmware package intended for this issue.
- Run
UpdateFW.cmd. - Wait about 10 seconds and confirm that the message
update firmware SUCCESSappears. - Restart the system.
Do not apply this procedure to a different model or a different RGB issue without model-specific instructions. ASRock lists the procedure in its RGB support FAQ. The success message and restart are part of the stated sequence; do not assume that the same command file is appropriate for other boards.
Graphics-card RGB control requires firmware recovery
ASRock’s graphics-card recovery process requires the firmware package for the exact GPU model. The command or file name varies by model; there is no universal GPU RGB-flash command.
- Obtain and extract the firmware package for the exact graphics card.
- Open a command prompt in the package’s firmware folder.
- Type
Updateand press Tab. ASRock says this reveals the full command-file name for that model. - Press Enter to start the flash and wait for
Update Pass.
Because this procedure writes firmware, use only the package and directions matching the card. Do not copy a command or package name from instructions for another graphics card. ASRock documents these steps in its RGB support FAQ.
Legacy AMD Wraith RGB setup
For the older AM4 Wraith RGB setup documented by ASRock, the cooler cable connects to the motherboard’s AMD Fan LED Header or RGB LED Header, and ASRock specifies RGB LED Utility version 1.0.12 or later. This is advice for that legacy setup, not an instruction to download the 2017 utility for a modern board. Consult the relevant product’s current support page and manual. The dated information appears in ASRock’s RGB support FAQ.
This older guidance addresses a particular cooler connection and software generation. It does not replace the header and compatibility checks for another accessory, and it does not make RGB LED Utility 1.0.12 the general-purpose Polychrome download for current hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should I check before downloading?
A quick model check prevents the most common mismatch: choosing a package because it says “Polychrome” rather than because ASRock lists it for the hardware in the PC. Use this checklist before installing software or connecting a lighting device:
- Identify the product: determine whether the lighting is controlled by an ASRock motherboard or graphics card, then use that exact model’s product page.
- Use the model-specific listing: open Support → Download and select the Polychrome utility shown there. ASRock’s utility index is useful for checking model-specific versions, but it is not a reason to install a package for another model.
- Distinguish RGB from ARGB: confirm voltage and pinout against the motherboard and accessory documentation before wiring.
- Check accessory compatibility: look for ASRock Polychrome SYNC or Polychrome Certified compatibility; an RGB label alone does not confirm synchronization support.
- Check what kind of lighting is affected: motherboard LED control, an accessory’s synchronization, and an LCD controller are different functions; an LCD-specific conflict warning should not be generalized to all RGB lighting.
- Keep model-specific recovery instructions model-specific: the Taichi Razer Edition procedure and graphics-card firmware process are not general-purpose RGB fixes.
If the task is only to download the software, the shortest reliable route is the exact product page → Support → Download → the Polychrome utility listed there. If the task is to synchronize an accessory, also verify the accessory’s compatibility. If the task involves connecting a cable, verify voltage and pinout before powering the system. These checks address different failure points, so completing one does not replace the others.

Can Polychrome control any RGB component connected to an ASRock PC?
No. ASRock describes synchronization for hardware compatible with ASRock Polychrome SYNC or Polychrome Certified. An RGB label alone does not guarantee that an accessory can synchronize, so check the accessory’s compatibility.
Is the 2017 RGB LED Utility the right app for a new ASRock motherboard?
Not by default. ASRock’s March 2017 AM4 FAQ and April 2017 Wraith RGB guidance concern an older setup. For a newer product, download the utility currently listed on that exact motherboard’s Support → Download page.
Should I install Polychrome RGB 2.0.218 because it is newer than 2.0.217?
Not unless ASRock lists that package for your exact product. ASRock’s utility index shows model-specific versions, including 2.0.217 and 2.0.218 dated April 9, 2026; the higher number is not automatically correct for every board or card.
Are RGB and ARGB headers interchangeable?
No. ASRock specifies standard RGB as 5050 RGB at 12V/G/R/B and addressable RGB as WS2812B at 5V/Data/GND. Match the accessory to the correct header and orientation; ASRock warns an incorrectly oriented cable can damage the cable or motherboard components.
Can I use SignalRGB with ASRock Polychrome?
ASRock’s stated warning is specifically that Polychrome Display and SignalRGB should not be installed or running together when both may access the LCD controller. It does not say that every Polychrome RGB installation conflicts with SignalRGB in every configuration. For the LCD-controller case, follow ASRock’s uninstall and restart instructions.
What should I do if my Z890 LEDs do not respond to BIOS settings?
For the specific Z890 case where LED lighting does not function and changing Polychrome RGB settings in BIOS has no effect, ASRock specifies Polychrome RGB version 2.0.190 or newer in the operating system. Use the package listed for your exact model where available.
Is there one command to recover RGB firmware on every ASRock graphics card?
No. ASRock says the graphics-card firmware package and command-file name vary by exact GPU model. Its documented steps use the matching package, then type Update and press Tab to reveal the full command-file name before running it.
