ASOS says an unauthorized customer notification was sent at around 10 a.m. on 6 October 2026, and that it is investigating unauthorized activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers. Names and contact details may have been accessed, but ASOS says it does not currently believe payment card information or account passwords were affected. The investigation is ongoing, and the company tells customers to ignore the message and not click its external link.
Was ASOS hacked?
ASOS has confirmed an incident involving an unauthorized customer notification and unauthorized activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers. In its 6 October 2026 regulatory announcement, the company said it had restricted access to those notification platforms and was working with specialist advisers and relevant authorities. The UK National Cyber Security Centre says ASOS customers should assume they are affected, even if they did not receive the notification.
This does not establish exactly how the activity began or whether attackers accessed or copied customer data. ASOS’s investigation was still underway in the company and NCSC statements available on 7 October 2026.
What did the ASOS notification say?
News reports said the unauthorized message threatened to leak data and claimed that ASOS’s Snowflake instance had been compromised. That is an allegation contained in the message as reported by The Guardian on 6 October 2026, not a confirmed explanation from ASOS. ASOS’s official statements identify unauthorized activity involving third-party customer-communication platforms but do not confirm a Snowflake compromise.

What information may have been affected?
ASOS says basic personal information, including names and contact details, may have been accessed. The company said it did not believe payment card information or account passwords were impacted. Those are ASOS’s current assessments during its investigation, not final forensic findings.
The official statements reviewed do not establish how many customers were affected, whether information was actually exfiltrated, or the technical entry path. ASOS has said it will provide further information when confirmed. Its general announcement cites 16.5 million active customers across more than 100 markets; that is company background, not an incident impact count.

Was my ASOS account affected?
The full scope is not yet known. The NCSC advises ASOS customers to assume they are affected even if they did not receive the unauthorized notification. This is precautionary guidance and does not mean every customer’s details have been confirmed as accessed.
What should I do if I got the notification?
- Do not click or engage with its external link. ASOS Customer Care says to disregard the unauthorized notification and not interact with the third-party link it contained.
- Follow ASOS’s current account guidance. ASOS says it is not currently asking customers to change their ASOS password or take another action. It says it will contact affected customers directly if that advice changes.
- Use official ASOS channels if you need to check a message. ASOS provides guidance on identifying genuine contact at How do I know I’m talking to ASOS? Do not use links or contact details in the suspicious message to verify it.
Has ASOS confirmed a data breach?
ASOS has confirmed the unauthorized notification and unauthorized activity involving third-party communication platforms. It has also said basic personal information may have been accessed. The information available in ASOS’s and the NCSC’s statements does not confirm the total scope, a final number of affected customers, verified data exfiltration, or the message’s Snowflake allegation. The investigation remains ongoing.
