ASML’s sales and profit are rising as chipmakers invest in capacity for AI-related advanced logic and memory chips—and those fabs need lithography equipment. ASML reported €32.7 billion in 2025 net sales and €9.6 billion in net income. In Q2 2026, it reported €9.3 billion in net sales and €2.9 billion in net income, then raised its full-year 2026 sales outlook to €43–45 billion. That outlook is management guidance, not a guaranteed result.
Why is ASML growing?
The immediate driver is increased investment in semiconductor manufacturing. AI-chip designers and cloud companies are driving demand for more advanced logic and memory chips. Chipmakers respond by expanding or upgrading fabrication capacity, which requires lithography systems and related services. ASML’s Q2 2026 results release links ongoing AI-related investment and progress in AI technologies to stronger demand for advanced logic and memory chips, and says that this supports the industry’s growth outlook: ASML Q2 2026 results.
ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet said customers had recently shared a “notably more positive assessment” of the medium-term market, based mainly on stronger expectations that AI-related demand would last. In its 2025 results release, the company said it expected 2026 to be another growth year, driven largely by higher EUV sales and growth in its installed-base business: ASML 2025 results. Those statements describe customer sentiment and management’s outlook; they do not establish how much AI-related demand will ultimately materialize.

What do ASML’s reported results show?
ASML’s reported 2025 figures show a profitable business across equipment and services. Its Q4 2025 net sales reached a record €9.7 billion, while net bookings for that quarter were €13.2 billion. Bookings are orders, not revenue already recognized; they can indicate future demand but should not be read as sales already delivered.

| Measure | Reported amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 total net sales | €32.7 billion | Full-year sales |
| 2025 net income | €9.6 billion | Full-year profit after expenses |
| Q4 2025 net sales | €9.7 billion | Quarterly sales; a company record |
| Q4 2025 net bookings | €13.2 billion | Quarterly orders, including €7.4 billion in EUV bookings |
| Q2 2026 net sales | €9.3 billion | Quarterly sales |
| Q2 2026 gross margin | 54.0% | Share of sales remaining after cost of sales |
| Q2 2026 net income | €2.9 billion | Quarterly profit after expenses |
The 2025 and Q2 2026 figures are reported results; the €43–45 billion full-year 2026 sales range is a forecast. ASML raised that outlook in its Q2 2026 release, citing demand from customers investing in AI-related capacity: ASML Q2 2026 results.
How does AI demand translate into ASML sales?
- AI workloads increase demand for computing. AI-chip designers and cloud providers need advanced processors and memory to build and operate AI systems.
- Chipmakers plan more capacity. To meet demand, manufacturers invest in fabs and production equipment for advanced logic and memory chips.
- Fabs need lithography. Lithography systems pattern circuits on silicon wafers. The most demanding chip layers use EUV, while DUV systems serve a broad range of manufacturing needs.
- ASML sells systems and supports them in use. Revenue can come from new equipment as well as maintenance, upgrades, and other installed-base services.
The link is indirect: AI companies do not generally buy lithography systems from ASML themselves. Semiconductor manufacturers make the equipment investment, and the timing of orders, deliveries, and revenue recognition can differ.

Where does EUV fit in ASML’s business?
EUV, or extreme ultraviolet lithography, is central to producing the most advanced chips because it can pattern very small features on demanding layers. ASML’s 2025 figures show substantial sales from both EUV and DUV systems, alongside service and metrology businesses.
| 2025 business category | Sales | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| EUV systems | €11.6 billion | Equipment for the most demanding lithography layers; Q4 EUV bookings were €7.4 billion. |
| DUV systems | €12.0 billion | A separate lithography technology with a broad role in chip production. |
| Metrology and inspection | €825 million | Tools used to measure and inspect manufacturing processes. |
| Installed-base management | €8.2 billion | Services and support for equipment already in customers’ fabs. |
These categories help explain why growth is not just a story about selling new EUV machines. DUV systems remain a major sales line, and service revenue comes from the large base of ASML equipment already operating in fabs. What is ASML planning for EUV capacity?
ASML said it planned roughly 30% more low-NA EUV capacity in 2027 than in 2026, and was investigating a further 30% increase for 2028. The potential 2028 increase was under investigation, not a confirmed production commitment. Capacity plans indicate how ASML is preparing for expected customer demand; they are not proof that every planned system will be sold or delivered on schedule. China demand and export restrictions
China was an important source of demand in 2024 and 2025, but ASML expected 2026 China sales to decline significantly from those strong levels. Export controls and changing customer demand can therefore offset some of the growth from AI-related investment. The company discussed the outlook in its 2025 reporting: ASML China-demand outlook.

AI investment may not follow expectations
ASML’s outlook depends partly on customers’ expectations that AI-related demand will persist. If chipmakers scale back expansion plans or delay equipment purchases, orders and future sales could be affected. Management guidance is a forecast based on conditions and expectations at the time, rather than a promise.

Bookings signal orders, but equipment must still be produced and delivered before it becomes recognized sales. A strong quarter for bookings can support future growth while leaving room for timing changes between orders and reported revenue.
