UPI payments on smart glasses can work without holding your phone at the checkout, but availability is limited and the feature is not confirmed for ordinary glasses models or every UPI app. NPCI’s October 8, 2025 rules include smart glasses in a delegated-payment framework for permitted IoT devices. They require the user to initiate each debit and limit payments to domestic merchant transactions, with caps of ₹5,000 per transaction and ₹15,000 per month for each delegation. These safeguards reduce exposure, but they do not guarantee that a particular device is supported or risk-free.
Do UPI payments on smart glasses work without a phone?
Potentially, at the point of payment. Under NPCI’s UPI Circle rules for IoT devices, an account holder can link a permitted device such as smart glasses as a secondary device and delegate payment authority to it. That could let the glasses make a merchant payment without the phone being in the user’s hand for each transaction.
That is not the same as proving the entire setup works without a phone. NPCI requires the primary and secondary devices to be in close proximity when they are linked, and the framework depends on a primary UPI account. The available rules do not establish that users can register, configure, or manage the feature without a phone.
NPCI’s October 8, 2025 circular describes initial availability as limited to users in a closed user group (CUG). It names smart glasses as a permitted category but does not identify a consumer glasses model, participating UPI app, or general retail rollout. NPCI International’s Q1 2026 newsletter describes wearable smart glasses using UPI Lite for voice-command, small-value payments, but likewise does not name a model or app or establish broad availability. Treat these as descriptions of a possible capability, not confirmation that a product you can buy today supports it.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
How the smart-glasses payment framework works
NPCI’s October 8, 2025 circular extends UPI Circle, a delegated-payment framework, to IoT devices and software profiles. Its listed examples include smart glasses, watches, TVs, and AI profiles. The account holder links an eligible secondary device and delegates payment authority, subject to the framework’s controls and limits. NPCI’s circular says only NPCI-permitted IoT devices or software may be linked.
NPCI’s GFF 2025 announcement describes IoT payments as user-authorized transactions that may be triggered by context, routines, voice, or text, within user-defined limits. That explains the intended flexibility; it does not mean a payment can happen without the user’s explicit action. The circular states: “It may be noted that debit transactions using IoT shall be only initiated by explicit user action.”

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What security protections and limits apply?
The rules establish meaningful controls, but they are not a blanket security certification for all smart glasses. Whether a payment is safe in practice also depends on the permitted device and participating payment service, how the user authorizes the transaction, and how well the glasses and linked account are protected.
- User-initiated debits: Each IoT debit must begin with explicit user action; the framework does not authorize unattended payments based only on a routine or detected context. NPCI’s UPI Circle circular sets this requirement.
- Permitted devices only: Participating members must allow only NPCI-permitted IoT devices or software to be linked. A camera, QR-scanning feature, voice assistant, or biometric sensor on its own does not establish UPI approval.
- Restricted payment scope: IoT transactions under the circular are domestic person-to-merchant (P2M) payments, not a general authorization for every kind of UPI transfer.
- Payment caps: The circular sets a maximum of ₹5,000 per IoT transaction and ₹15,000 per month for each delegation. These caps limit the amount that can be spent through that delegation, but do not eliminate fraud or the risk of a compromised or lost device.
- Linking control: The primary and secondary devices must be in close proximity during linking, which helps constrain the initial pairing process.
NPCI’s UPI FAQ says the UPI PIN authorizes bank transactions and should not be shared. It also says changing the SIM, mobile, or PSP app requires UPI re-registration. Do not assume that every smart-glasses payment asks for a PIN: NPCI’s IoT delegation and UPI Lite descriptions are distinct flows, and the cited materials do not specify one universal authentication method for glasses.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
Biometric authorization is also not proof of glasses compatibility. NPCI’s October 7, 2025 authentication circular introduces optional on-device biometrics in lieu of a PIN for UPI transactions up to ₹5,000 initially, subject to device compatibility and security validation. It does not establish that smart glasses support this method.
How to check whether a pair of glasses can make UPI payments
Before buying or linking a device, get confirmation for the exact glasses model and UPI service you intend to use. The NPCI rules establish a device category and initial CUG access, but do not name a generally available product or app implementation.

- Check the maker’s official support information. Look for the exact model and an explicit statement that it supports NPCI-permitted IoT payments through UPI Circle—not merely QR scanning, voice commands, or NFC.
- Confirm with your UPI app or bank. Ask whether the service supports IoT delegation on your account and whether you are eligible for access, including any CUG restrictions.
- Read the setup and authorization instructions. Establish whether a phone is needed to link or manage the glasses, what action confirms each payment, and how the amount and payee are shown before authorization.
- Check transaction controls and recovery steps. Confirm the applicable transaction and monthly limits, how to revoke or unlink the device, and what to do if the glasses are lost, shared, or disconnected.
If the maker or payment provider cannot confirm support for your exact model and account, do not assume the glasses can pay by UPI. No named, model-specific retail product with verified UPI compatibility is established by the cited NPCI materials.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is UPI Tap & Pay the same thing?
No. NPCI’s Tap & Pay overview describes opening a UPI app on an NFC-capable mobile device, entering an amount, and tapping that device against a merchant’s UPI Smart NFC QR or tag. Those instructions concern an NFC-capable device running the app; they do not establish smart-glasses support or prove that glasses can pay without a phone.
