They are a poor choice if your main reasons are dependable visual navigation or private, high-quality listening. The map-and-walking-directions feature belongs to the separate Meta Ray-Ban Display model, and Ray-Ban describes that feature as beta and available only in select cities.
First, check which Ray-Ban Meta glasses you mean
Ray-Ban sells standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses and the distinct Meta Ray-Ban Display. The standard Gen 2 glasses are audio-first for the uses discussed here: Ray-Ban documents open-ear sound and music controls, but its visual pedestrian-map instructions are for the Display. Do not buy standard Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 expecting an in-lens walking map or assume it provides the Display model’s navigation experience. What navigation the Display offers
Ray-Ban documents a map view and audio walking directions for Meta Ray-Ban Display, but calls pedestrian navigation a beta feature and limits it to select cities. Ray-Ban says the map uses data from Overture and OpenStreetMap. Availability can change, so check whether your city is supported before buying if walking directions are essential. The Display FAQ also says location permissions must allow precise, ongoing access for local search and navigation.
What music is like on standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses
Music playback is a documented feature, not just a speculative use. Ray-Ban’s US FAQ describes Apple Music and Amazon Music playback, with touch controls for play/pause, skipping and volume. It also lists voice requests for songs, albums, artists, playlists or stations. Set up connected music services in the Meta AI app; Amazon Music library access requires Prime. Convenience comes with open-ear trade-offs
The glasses’ speakers leave ambient sound within earshot, which can be useful when you want music without inserting earbuds. That design does not provide the isolation or privacy of earbuds, however, and sound can leak to people nearby. Tom’s Guide’s Gen 2 review describes the audio as clear with adequate bass but below wireless-earbud quality, and says loud noise can overpower it. TechRadar’s hands-on account likewise describes leakage and positions the experience as better suited to lower-stakes listening than full-volume playback near other people. These are reviewer observations, not lab measurements.
That makes the glasses a convenience option for a walk or casual listening, rather than a strong pick for audiophile sound, noisy commutes or private listening. If sound quality and noise isolation matter most, dedicated earbuds are the more appropriate category.

How long the battery lasts while listening
Ray-Ban’s current US FAQ gives different maximum estimates by generation and use case. They are manufacturer estimates, not guaranteed runtimes; Ray-Ban says actual battery life varies with use and other factors.

The continuous-streaming figure is the more relevant of the two if you expect to listen while using voice assistance for long stretches. It should not be read as a promise of uninterrupted music for a full workday.

What you need to use music features
Ray-Ban says the glasses connect to a smartphone and the Meta AI app. Music providers are connected through that app, so a phone and app are part of the experience rather than optional extras. Amazon Music library access specifically requires Prime, according to Ray-Ban’s FAQ.

- Consider Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 if you want smart glasses for their broader camera and AI features and would also use convenient open-ear music.
- Choose dedicated earbuds instead if your priority is stronger sound, privacy or isolation from surrounding noise.
- Verify the exact model and city coverage first if visual maps or walking directions are a deciding factor; the documented in-lens map experience is for Meta Ray-Ban Display, with beta and location limits.
For a purchase driven mainly by navigation or high-quality private music listening, standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses are a weak fit. Their value is more compelling when music is an added convenience alongside the glasses’ other smart features.
