ARC Raiders’ Frozen Trail update is scheduled for October 8, 2026, and Embark describes its Grappling Hook as a traversal gadget for reaching difficult-to-access places, rappelling from buildings and swinging across gaps. Those are announced capabilities—not verified hands-on findings. The available information does not establish that anyone had three hours to play Frozen Trail or how the gadget performs in a match.
What the Grappling Hook is meant to do
Embark’s September 23 preview presents the Grappling Hook (also referred to in its feature description as the Grapple Hook) as a way to move through Pendola Pass. The studio says Raiders can use it to reach hard-to-reach spots, rappel from buildings and swing over large gaps. The announcement supports those intended uses, but does not establish its range, cooldown, availability, handling, reliability or effect on match outcomes.
What Frozen Trail adds beyond the hook
The Grappling Hook is one part of a broader update. Embark’s preview describes Pendola Pass as the new map and also announces a Frigate operation, new ARC enemies, an Outpost, weapon upgrades, new weapons and other additions. The August 12 announcement characterized Frozen Trail as the studio’s biggest update since launch; that is Embark’s description, not an independently measured comparison.
Traversal and verticality
The hook’s announced role is movement through hard-to-reach areas and across gaps. Whether those routes become useful shortcuts, expose Raiders to danger or change how teams approach an encounter cannot be established from the feature description alone.

Challenge and cooperation
The preview places the Frigate operation and new ARC threats alongside the new map. It does not provide enough detail to assess their difficulty or explain how the Grappling Hook interacts with those encounters.
Progression and weapon customization
Embark also lists weapon upgrades and new weapons among the update’s additions. The preview establishes that these are part of the announced package, but does not provide a basis for comparing their balance or describing their impact on progression.

What the three-hour headline does—and does not—establish
The available sources describe the update and the Grappling Hook, but do not verify a three-hour Frozen Trail play session or firsthand observations of the gadget. An October 2025 Xbox Wire preview reports a three-hour closed preview of the base game across three maps; that older session is not evidence of time spent with Frozen Trail. Accordingly, claims about how the new hook feels, how consistently it works or whether it changes match results should not be presented as firsthand reporting without separate confirmation.
