GitLab runs the tests; the SDK sends checkpoint images to Eyes for comparison with baselines, which your team reviews in the Eyes results interface.
How Eyes fits into a GitLab CI pipeline
Eyes is designed to add visual checks to existing test frameworks. Applitools lists GitLab among its source-control integrations and documents CI/CD integrations separately; in practical terms, the Eyes SDK is integrated into the test suite that your GitLab job runs.
- Your GitLab runner prepares the project dependencies and browser required by the test suite.
- The test executes and reaches an Eyes checkpoint, where the SDK captures the screen.
- The SDK sends the capture to the Eyes Server, which compares it with the relevant baseline.
- Your team reviews the results and decides whether a difference indicates a defect or an intentional change. Update a baseline only after that review.
Applitools documents public cloud, dedicated cloud, and on-premises configurations. Those categories describe deployment choices, not an assurance that a particular account uses an India endpoint.
Choose the SDK that matches your test stack
Start with the language and framework your tests already use rather than choosing a new browser-testing stack just for visual checks. Applitools lists SDK options for Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, WebdriverIO, Appium, and other frameworks. See the Applitools SDK catalog and follow the guide for the specific SDK and version in your project.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check framework and language support: select the matching Eyes SDK and use its own setup guide.
- Inventory CI dependencies: identify the browser, driver, runtime, and package manager your tests require.
- Agree on baseline ownership: decide who reviews changes and approves baseline updates before visual tests become a merge gate.
Set up credentials and dependencies in GitLab CI
Create or use an Applitools account and obtain its API key through the account’s documented process. Add the key to GitLab CI/CD variables rather than committing it to source control. Use the protected-variable setting where your branch and pipeline policy supports it, and make sure the job that runs visual tests is allowed to receive the variable.
Install the Eyes SDK alongside the project’s existing test dependencies, then run the normal test command in the GitLab job. The runner must also have the browser and any matching driver or system dependencies expected by that test setup.

For example, Applitools’ official Java Selenium quickstart lists an Applitools account and API key, Java, Maven, Chrome, and a matching ChromeDriver as prerequisites. Those are specific to that example, not universal requirements for Playwright, Cypress, or other SDKs. Use the Java Selenium quickstart only if that is your stack.
There is no single GitLab YAML job that can be safely prescribed for every project: runner image, browser installation, test command, concurrency, and artifact retention depend on your framework and GitLab configuration. Keep the Eyes setup within the existing test job, and consult the selected SDK’s current guide when adapting the job.

Place checkpoints and review differences
Add checkpoints around meaningful, stable interface states: for example, a completed form, a rendered dashboard, or a navigation state after the test has finished loading its data. A checkpoint is useful only when the page is in the state your team intends to compare; decide how the test handles dynamic content before treating differences as regressions.
When a pipeline finishes, open the Eyes results for the run and inspect differences against the baseline. A changed screenshot is evidence to review, not automatic proof of a bug. Approve and update a baseline only when the visual change is intentional and the responsible reviewer agrees.

India-specific hosting, latency, and pricing questions
Applitools’ documented deployment categories include public cloud, dedicated cloud, and on-premises, but the cited architecture information does not establish an India service region or India data-residency commitment. Do not assume screenshots remain in India because your team or GitLab runners are located there.
Before choosing a configuration, ask Applitools which service region applies to the account and plan, how screenshots and related metadata are handled and retained, what contractual data-handling commitments apply, and what access latency your team should expect. The available information does not establish local latency or a specific India availability promise.

The vendor pricing page displayed Starter at $667 per month when paid annually, alongside stated checkpoint allowances and CI/CD integrations. This is a volatile USD vendor listing, not an India quote: confirm current plan limits, billing currency, taxes, and local commercial terms directly before budgeting. The available pricing information does not provide an India-specific amount.

Common setup problems to check
- The API key is missing in the job: verify the variable name used by the SDK, the GitLab variable’s scope and protection settings, and whether the pipeline runs on a branch permitted to access it. Do not print the key in job logs.
- The browser or driver cannot start: check the runner image and installed browser dependencies against the selected framework’s guide. For the Java Selenium quickstart, Chrome and a matching ChromeDriver are specifically required.
- Visual results are inconsistent: check that the test reaches the intended state before its checkpoint and that dynamic page content is handled appropriately. Review each difference rather than accepting every new image as a baseline.
- A setup example does not fit the project: do not transplant Java Selenium prerequisites or commands into another SDK’s pipeline. Follow that framework’s official guide and retain the project’s own test command.
- India hosting or billing is unclear: obtain account- and plan-specific confirmation from Applitools instead of inferring region, residency, tax, currency, or latency from a general product page.
