On the specifications each company publishes, neither phone beats the other across the board. The iPhone 18 Pro Max has the larger, denser display, the wider storage range (up to 2TB), and Apple’s A20 Pro chip. The OnePlus 15 has a higher listed gaming refresh ceiling (165Hz), a listed 7,300mAh typical battery, a listed 80W wired charging rate in the US, and a lower reported starting price. In US pricing, the OnePlus 15 starts at $899.99 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is reported to start at $1,299, a difference of $399.01 between the two base models. That gap compares starting configurations only, and it is a US figure.

Spec-by-spec breakdown
Display
Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a 6.9-inch OLED panel at 2868 × 1320 pixels and 460 ppi, with ProMotion adaptive refresh up to 120Hz. OnePlus lists the OnePlus 15 at 6.78 inches, 2772 × 1272 pixels and 450 ppi, with adaptive refresh from 1Hz to 120Hz and up to 165Hz in gaming. Apple measures its diagonal as a standard rectangle, so the rounded-corner viewable area is slightly smaller than the headline figure.
The 165Hz number is a gaming ceiling, not the rate the phone holds in everyday use, and the published material does not show how often either phone reaches its top rate. Refresh rate also says little about brightness, colour accuracy, or panel quality, which these spec listings do not measure.

The two phones run on different mobile platforms. The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses Apple’s A20 Pro, and the OnePlus 15 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with OxygenOS 16 on Android 16. No comparable benchmark result is established in the material behind this article, so it does not name a speed winner.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Memory is only partly comparable. OnePlus lists 12GB or 16GB of RAM alongside its storage options. Apple’s specifications list storage tiers from 256GB to 2TB but do not state RAM, so the two cannot be matched on memory.
Battery and charging
OnePlus lists a 7,300mAh typical battery for the OnePlus 15. Apple’s support page reports battery and charging features for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but a directly comparable mAh figure is not established, so the capacity comparison runs in only one direction. Capacity is also not runtime. Screen size, refresh settings, network conditions, and software all shape how long a charge lasts, and no matched endurance test is used here.

OnePlus’s US specifications list 80W SUPERVOOC wired charging and 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging. Its North American launch release says US and Canadian units include a charging brick and cable in the box, and that the US version supports up to 80W wired charging, with an optional adapter enabling up to 100W. International versions can reach up to 120W wired charging. The charging speed you get therefore depends on the market where you buy.

Cameras
OnePlus lists three 50MP rear cameras: main, ultra-wide, and a telephoto with 3.5× optical zoom and 7× optical-quality zoom, plus a 32MP front camera. Apple lists a 48MP camera system with main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. Apple’s full specification page covers capture limits and regional details that this comparison does not reproduce.

Megapixel counts do not establish photo quality, and this comparison includes no independent camera results, so it does not declare a camera winner.

| Model and configuration | US price | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| OnePlus 15, 12GB/256GB | $899.99 | OnePlus North American launch release, November 13, 2025 |
| OnePlus 15, 16GB/512GB | $999.99 | OnePlus North American launch release, November 13, 2025 |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max, starting configuration (capacity not stated in the report) | From $1,299 (reported) | Tom’s Guide, September 9, 2026 (secondary report) |
Comparing the two starting prices gives a $399.01 difference ($1,299 minus $899.99). That subtraction only holds if the reported $1,299 applies to the same 256GB tier as the OnePlus base model, and the report does not say which capacity the starting price covers. At 512GB, the sources give an OnePlus price of $999.99 but no iPhone price, so no gap can be stated for that tier.
