A 403 response means the request was refused, but APITemplate.io’s official references do not identify a screenshot-specific cause. Start by confirming the exact endpoint and API version, then check that endpoint’s authentication and request format. Do not assume a missing or invalid key is the cause: APITemplate’s older v1 reference associates an invalid key with HTTP 401, not 403.
1. Confirm the endpoint and API version
First compare the full URL in your failing request with the documentation for that exact endpoint. APITemplate’s current REST guide documents v2, using https://rest.apitemplate.io/v2/ and regional hosts. Its older API reference describes a v1 image-creation endpoint. The paths and request details are version-specific; do not combine v1 and v2 instructions. See the REST API guide and older API reference.
- Record the complete request URL, including its host, path and version.
- Open the matching endpoint documentation and confirm that the method and required inputs agree with your request.
- If your integration uses a regional host, confirm that it is one of the hosts listed for the current REST API.
2. Check authentication for that endpoint
For the current REST API, send the API key in the X-API-KEY header. The older v1 reference also describes Authorization: Token [API_KEY]. Use the authentication method documented for the endpoint you actually call, rather than sending a key using a pattern copied from another API version.
Check that the deployed application has a populated key and that it reaches the outgoing request. Redact the key from logs and support examples. The older reference describes a wrong key as a 401 response; that does not establish the cause of a particular 403.

3. Verify the v1 image-creation request shape, if applicable
These checks apply to the older v1 image-creation endpoint, not automatically to v2. Its reference specifies a POST request, a required template_id, and JSON data. Compare your request with that endpoint’s documentation before changing it.
- Confirm the HTTP method is POST.
- Include the required template ID.
- Send the data in the documented JSON request shape.
For a v2 endpoint, follow its own current endpoint reference instead of applying these v1 requirements.

4. Follow redirects in your API client
The older v1 reference advises clients to follow redirects. If your integration calls that endpoint and redirect following is disabled, enable it and retry. This is a documented v1 integration check, not a general explanation for every 403.
5. Inspect the response and prepare useful diagnostics
Do not diagnose the problem from the status number alone. Read the response body and capture the request details needed to reproduce the call. The surfaced official references document other statuses, including 401 for an invalid key in the older reference and 429 for rate-limit excess in the current REST guide, but do not explain a screenshot-specific 403.

If the endpoint, authentication, request shape and redirect behavior all match the relevant documentation, send APITemplate support the endpoint, HTTP method, status, response body, and a credential-redacted request sample. Do not include the API key in logs or support messages.
REST API and Direct URLs are different integration methods
APITemplate also documents direct image-generation URLs. That method uses HTTP GET and does not require an API key in the URL itself; REST API requests instead use the documented API request and authentication format. Choose the method that fits your integration, and follow its instructions. A Direct URL is not documented as a general way to bypass an authorization policy or cure every 403.
