What was AnonPaste?
AnonPaste was a paste-style data-sharing site launched in April 2012 by Anonymous affiliates associated with Operation AntiSec and the People’s Liberation Front. A historical account in Introduction to Cyber-Warfare: A Multidisciplinary Approach places its launch amid concerns about Pastebin’s handling of user logs. The site’s creators advertised several privacy-related features: users could choose when a post would be deleted, the service had no advertising or connection logs, and retained data was encrypted. These were promotional claims, not independently audited guarantees of anonymity or security.
Why did Anonymous create it?
The historical account frames AnonPaste as a response to concern about Pastebin’s treatment of logs. Its advertised lack of connection logs was intended to distinguish it from a mainstream paste service, while configurable deletion gave posters control over how long material remained available. The available account does not establish how well those features worked in practice.

How was Par:AnoIA different?
Par:AnoIA—short for Potentially Alarming Research: Anonymous Intelligence Agency—was a related but separate project. AnonPaste was described as a place to share posts; Par:AnoIA was intended to organize and present data obtained by Anonymous in a more usable form. The historical account does not provide enough evidence to compare their security, reliability, or availability.
What happened to the projects?
The book’s account says that, by the time it was written, neither AnonPaste nor Par:AnoIA was a workable website. That is a source-era observation, not a current status check, and it does not establish what happened to either domain afterward.

What does the headline refer to?
Dark Reading’s archive lists “Anonymous Builds New Haven For Stolen Data” as an article by Mathew J. Schwartz dated April 19, 2012. Another archive listing shows April 25, 2012; that is an archive-listing date, not the article date. A 2014 bibliography by Robert W. Gehl independently lists a matching Schwartz article title as an InformationWeek item, but does not verify its full contents. The historical facts about AnonPaste and Par:AnoIA above come from the book’s account rather than a review of the inaccessible original article.
