Download the current Anaconda Distribution Windows 64-bit graphical installer from Anaconda’s official download page. The current release is Anaconda Distribution 2026.07-1, which includes Python 3.14.6, conda 26.5.3, and Anaconda Navigator 2.7.1; it supports Windows 11 version 23H2 or later on 64-bit x86 systems and requires at least 5 GB of disk space.
This guide covers official download options, installer choices, integrity checks, verification, and common Windows installation problems.
Check Windows 11 compatibility first
Press Windows + R, enter winver, and press Enter. Confirm that Windows is version 23H2 or later. Also confirm that the computer uses a 64-bit x86 processor and has at least 5 GB of free disk space.
Anaconda will discontinue support for Windows 11 version 23H2 and older on November 10, 2026. If Windows Update offers a newer release, install it rather than keeping an unsupported version.

Download Anaconda for Windows 11
Using the Anaconda website
- Open anaconda.com/download.
- Under Anaconda Distribution, select Windows 64-Bit Graphical Installer.
- Complete the Free Download form if it appears. It may request an email address and includes an Opt In control and Submit button.
- After submission, the page may show “Success!” and instruct you to check your email for a download link. The download flow also provides a Skip Registration option.
- Save the installer file, currently named Anaconda3-2026.07-1-Windows-x86_64.exe.
- Open the Windows Downloads folder and double-click the installer.
Do not launch the installer from the Windows Favorites folder. That location can cause directory-creation, access-denied, and file-writing errors.
Download from Command Prompt or PowerShell
To download with Command Prompt, change to the folder where you want to save the installer and run:

In PowerShell, run:

Verify the installer before opening it
Hash verification checks that the downloaded executable matches the official Anaconda file. In File Explorer, right-click the installer and select Copy as path to obtain its full path.

In Command Prompt, run:
certutil -hashfile C:\path\to\Anaconda3-2026.07-1-Windows-x86_64.exe SHA256
Or run this in PowerShell:
Get-FileHash C:\path\to\Anaconda3-2026.07-1-Windows-x86_64.exe -Algorithm SHA256
Compare the resulting SHA-256 value with the hash listed in the official Anaconda archive. Do not install a file whose hash does not match.
Install Anaconda with the graphical installer
- Open the downloaded .exe file and select Next.
- Select I Agree to accept the Anaconda Terms of Service.
- Choose Just Me (Recommended) or All Users.
- Select Next, then choose the destination folder.
- Review the installer options and select Install.
- Select Show details to view the packages being installed, if desired.
- Select Next twice, then select Finish.
Which installation type should you choose?

For most personal computers, select Just Me (Recommended). Do not select Run as Administrator unless the installation genuinely requires administrator privileges.
Choose a suitable destination folder
The normal Just Me location is:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\anaconda3\
Use an installation directory without spaces or special characters, such as C:\Users\Alex\anaconda3. Some open-source tools can have compatibility problems with paths containing spaces or special characters.
Understand the installer checkboxes

Adding Anaconda to PATH is not required to use conda. Anaconda Prompt configures conda commands for you and avoids changing how other Windows programs locate Python.

Open Anaconda and confirm that it works
- Open Windows Search, type Anaconda Navigator, and select the application.
- Alternatively, search for Anaconda Prompt and open it.
- Check that the prompt begins with (base), similar to (base) C:\Users\username>.
- Run conda list to display packages installed in the base environment.
The default conda environments are normally stored under:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\anaconda3\envs\
Anaconda Distribution or Miniconda?
Choose Anaconda Distribution if you want Navigator, Jupyter applications, Spyder, conda, and a broad preinstalled package collection. Choose Miniconda if you want a smaller, minimal installer and prefer to install packages yourself. Miniconda does not include Anaconda Navigator.
Fix common Windows 11 installation problems
“Setup was unable to create the directory” or “Access is denied”
Move the installer from Favorites to Downloads, your Home folder, or another local folder. Then run it again. Launching the executable from Favorites is a documented cause of directory and file-writing failures.
Antivirus blocks or interrupts installation
Security software can interfere with extraction and package installation. Anaconda documents temporarily disabling antivirus during installation and re-enabling it afterward; do so only if your security policy permits it. Download only from Anaconda’s official website or repository.

“Failed to create Anaconda menus”
Restart Windows or Windows Explorer so that the Start Menu refreshes. Other possible causes include multiple Python installations, globally installed Python modules, or libraries with names that overlap with Anaconda libraries. If the problem continues, clear the PYTHONPATH variable and reinstall.
“Failed to add Anaconda to the system PATH”
An excessively long PATH—especially one longer than 1024 characters—can cause this error. Previous Python installations, stale Python entries, Java PATH entries, antivirus software, and an installed JDK can also contribute.

To inspect PATH, search Windows for environment variables, select Edit the System Environment Variables, select Environment Variables in System Properties, select the user Path variable, and select Edit. Remove obsolete entries carefully; do not delete paths used by software you still need.
PowerShell activation shows an AssertionError
Open Command Prompt, change to the conda installation directory, and run:

Close Command Prompt and try PowerShell again. If the command fails, open Anaconda Prompt and run:
conda update conda
“Proxy request sent, not found”
A corporate firewall, proxy, or endpoint-security policy may be blocking Anaconda servers. Ask your administrator to allow anaconda.org, repo.anaconda.com, and, where applicable, repo.anaconda.cloud.
Windows Defender Application Control extraction failure
This extraction problem is fixed in the 2026.07-1 .exe installers. If you are using an older installer, download the current release instead.
