What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To find an app taking up space, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Check the largest entries and Apple’s recommendations, then choose whether to offload or delete an app—or free space elsewhere, such as downloaded videos, message attachments, or files. There is no single app that is responsible on every iPhone; your storage screen shows what is using space on your device.
Find what is using your iPhone storage
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Wait for the screen to load. Apple says it shows available space, storage use, and recommendations.
- Review the largest app entries and the recommendation cards. The size shown can help you decide what to review, but it does not mean all of that space is safe to remove.
An app’s storage entry can include the app itself as well as documents and data it has stored. Those documents may include content you want to keep, so check an app’s own storage options and confirm important content is synced or backed up before removing the app.
Choose between offloading and deleting an app
| Action | What happens | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Offload App | Removes the app but keeps its documents and data. Its Home Screen icon remains; tap it to reinstall the app. | When you want to remove the app itself while retaining its stored data. |
| Delete App | Removes the app and its related data. | When you no longer need the app or its local data, after checking whether anything important is unsynced or unbacked-up. |
These options appear in the app’s entry on the iPhone Storage screen. Deleting is more destructive than offloading: app-related data may be lost, especially if it exists only on the phone.

If an app is not the main problem—or its data is important—review other local content before deleting it:

Turn on automatic offloading for unused apps
To have iPhone remove unused apps automatically when storage is low while keeping their data, go to Settings > Apps > App Store and enable Offload Unused Apps. Apple describes this as an automatic way to remove unused apps while retaining their data. The app can be reinstalled when needed.

Cache files are temporary or recoverable data that apps may store. Apple’s developer documentation says cache-folder files can be purged automatically when device storage is low. That does not make all app documents and data disposable, and it does not provide a universal iPhone control to clear every app’s data.

For a specific app, check whether it has its own storage-management option before considering deletion and reinstallation. Deleting removes the app and related data, so local or unsynced content could be lost. A cache cleanup also has no guaranteed space-saving amount; the result depends on what that app has stored.
