There is no universal AMD WiFi driver for Windows 11. AMD’s driver portal provides packages for Radeon graphics and Ryzen chipsets, but not a general WLAN driver. A PC can use an AMD Ryzen processor and still have WiFi hardware made by MediaTek, Qualcomm, Intel, Realtek, or another manufacturer.
The correct download is selected by the wireless adapter’s model and hardware ID—not by the brand of the CPU. For laptops and all-in-one PCs, the safest source is usually the computer manufacturer’s support page.
What AMD’s Windows 11 downloads include
AMD’s current driver portal does not contain a general WiFi-adapter category. Its relevant Windows 11 downloads are mainly:
| AMD package | What it supports | Is it a WiFi driver? |
|---|---|---|
| Radeon graphics driver | AMD integrated and discrete graphics | No |
| Ryzen Chipset Driver | Platform components such as PCI, I2C, UART, GPIO, PSP, SMBus, and power-management functions | No |
| AMD Auto-Detect and Install | Compatible Radeon graphics and Ryzen chipset packages | No |
As of August 7, 2026, AMD lists AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver 8.05.04.516 for Windows 11 64-bit systems. The package is 76 MB and was released on May 18, 2026. Despite its name, it does not install a wireless LAN driver. AMD’s release notes list chipset and platform components but do not list a WLAN or WiFi adapter driver.

Find the WiFi adapter before downloading anything
Windows can show the exact wireless device installed in the computer. Use this information instead of searching for a driver by processor name.
- Select Search on the Windows 11 taskbar.
- Type Device Manager, then open it.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Find the entry that contains terms such as Wi-Fi, Wireless, 802.11, or the name of a wireless manufacturer.
- Right-click the adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab to see the provider, date, and version.
To identify the hardware more precisely, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Details tab, and choose Hardware Ids from the Property menu. Hardware IDs allow Windows and driver packages to match the software to the correct device.
If the adapter name is visible, copy that name when searching for a download. For example, search for the exact wireless model and your computer model—not “AMD WiFi driver.”
Download the driver from the computer manufacturer
For a laptop or all-in-one PC, start with the manufacturer’s support page. AMD recommends OEM drivers for these systems because they may contain customizations and compatibility fixes for the computer’s firmware, power management, hotkeys, antennas, and other hardware.
Open the support page for the exact computer and enter the requested information, such as:
- Manufacturer
- Exact model name or product number
- Serial number or service tag, if requested
- Windows 11 64-bit
In the driver list, look for a category named Wireless, WiFi, WLAN, or Network. Download the package that matches the adapter shown in Device Manager.

Do not choose a wireless package simply because the PC contains a Ryzen processor. The same laptop family can be sold with different wireless modules, so the correct driver may vary between otherwise similar configurations.
Use Windows Update first
Windows 11 automatically installs recommended hardware drivers through Windows Update. Optional driver updates are not installed until you select them manually.
Check for standard updates
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Restart the PC if Windows requests it.
Check optional driver updates
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Advanced options.
- Under Additional options, select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates, if the section is available.
- Select the wireless-driver update and choose Download and install.
- Restart Windows.
Windows Update also has a Receive updates for other Microsoft products setting under Advanced options. The Optional updates page may not show a newer WiFi driver even when one exists on the computer manufacturer’s website. Windows only displays drivers published through Microsoft’s driver-distribution system for that device and configuration.
Install a downloaded WiFi driver
Most manufacturer downloads are executable installers. If the file is an OEM .exe, close other programs and run that installer, then follow its instructions.
If the package has been extracted into a folder containing driver files, install it through Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
- Browse to the extracted driver folder.
- Select Next.
Keep a copy of the driver on a USB drive before uninstalling a malfunctioning adapter, especially if the PC currently has no internet connection.

- Receive & Transmit Two in One: A desktop computer can connect to the WiFi wireless Internet by connecting it to a wireless network card. A networked computer can connect to the network card to transmit WiFi and share it with other devices
- Stay Safe Online: The wifi dongle supports WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA2 mixed encryption modes. Note: Make sure that the distance between the adapter and router should be within 30ft
If the wireless adapter has a warning icon
In Device Manager, open:
Network adapters > [wireless adapter] > Properties
The Device status box may display an error code. Codes such as Code 1, Code 18, Code 31, and Code 39 indicate different driver or device problems. Record the code before searching Microsoft’s Device Manager error-code guidance or the computer manufacturer’s support documentation.
If the adapter is listed but its driver is damaged, reinstall it as follows:
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter and select Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device, if that checkbox appears.
- Select Uninstall.
- Choose Start > Power > Restart.
After restarting, Windows attempts to detect the adapter and reinstall a driver. If it does not, use the driver package saved from the OEM support page.
If WiFi is missing from Device Manager
When no wireless adapter appears under Network adapters, Windows is not currently detecting it. The device may instead appear under Other devices, often with a yellow warning icon.
Possible causes include:
- A missing wireless driver
- A disabled adapter
- A BIOS or firmware setting
- An incomplete or incorrect OEM driver package
- A failed wireless module
Check Device Manager for an unknown network device and inspect its Hardware Ids. Also check whether the laptop has a physical wireless switch or an airplane-mode key. Installing the AMD chipset package is not a reliable solution for an undetected third-party WiFi module.
Generate a Windows wireless report
Windows 11 can create an HTML report containing recent wireless events, the detected adapter, PnP IDs, driver version, driver date, and reported problems.

- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
netsh wlan show wlanreport
Windows saves the report as an HTML file. Open it in a browser and review the adapter and driver sections. The report can be useful when Device Manager shows little information or when WiFi disconnects repeatedly.
When the driver installs but WiFi still fails
A correctly installed driver does not guarantee a connection. Check the adapter’s settings at:
Recommended Free Tools
Device Manager > Network adapters > [wireless adapter] > Properties > Advanced
Depending on the adapter, look for settings named Wireless Mode or Band. A mismatch can occur when the router uses a frequency or wireless mode that the adapter does not support, or when the driver is filtering out that band.
Also test whether other devices can connect to the same router. If every device is offline, the problem is more likely to be the router, modem, or internet service rather than the Windows driver.

Should you install AMD Auto-Detect?
AMD Auto-Detect and Install is useful for compatible AMD Radeon graphics and Ryzen chipset packages. AMD documents support for Windows 11 version 21H2 and later, but does not document the tool as a WiFi-driver updater.
Its choices—including Recommended, Optional, Default, Minimal, Driver Only, Factory Reset, and Custom Install—apply to AMD graphics and chipset installations. The tool will not identify and install a generic wireless driver made by another hardware manufacturer.

Bottom line: Do not download a supposed universal AMD WiFi driver. Identify the wireless adapter in Device Manager, run Windows Update, and use the exact Windows 11 WLAN package from the computer manufacturer when one is available. The AMD Ryzen chipset driver and AMD Auto-Detect tool are not substitutes for that adapter-specific driver.
