In fiscal 2026, the company reported $390.7 million in revenue and said edge-AI SoCs generated 80% of that total. Its filings still list consumer cameras among its markets, so the accurate description is expansion from a camera-processing heritage into physical AI—not a complete exit from cameras or proof that robotics already dominates every product line.
What Ambarella makes now
Ambarella designs low-power SoCs that combine video and image processing with its proprietary CVflow deep-learning accelerator. The chips can ingest camera and other sensor data, interpret it locally and provide AI results to the surrounding system.
The company identifies several target markets:
- Automotive camera systems and assisted-to-automated driving functions
- Video-security cameras and intelligent surveillance equipment
- Fixed and autonomous mobile robots
- Industrial machine vision and automation
- Consumer devices, including action, drone and 360-degree cameras
This architecture lets a device perform inference at the edge instead of sending every video stream to a remote cloud. The practical benefits Ambarella emphasizes are local, low-latency processing and lower power requirements. Customers port their own neural networks to Ambarella processors, so CVflow is a platform for customer applications rather than a single robot product.
The financial evidence for the change

Chief executive Fermi Wang said in the February 26, 2026 results release that FY2026 revenue grew 37% and that edge-AI SoCs represented 80% of revenue. He also gave management guidance for total FY2027 revenue growth of 10% to 15%. That range is a company forecast, not an independently verified outcome.

The annual filing says growth reflected higher shipments and a higher mix of AI-inference processors. Lower non-recurring engineering (NRE) project-service revenue partly offset that increase. The public filings do not provide a clean, standalone revenue number for robotics, so the 80% figure should not be read as “80% robotics revenue.”
How cameras connect to robotics
1. Visual sensing
Robots, vehicles and security systems often begin with cameras or other sensors that capture the surrounding scene.
2. Local interpretation
Image-processing hardware prepares the data, while CVflow runs neural-network inference to identify objects, people, lanes, obstacles or other features defined by the customer’s model.

3. System decisions
The resulting information can support navigation, inspection, driver-assistance functions or security responses. Ambarella supplies the processing platform; the complete behavior depends on the customer’s software, sensors and system design.
Ambarella positions CV3 products for assisted through automated driving and presents CV7 and N1 families for broader edge-AI and robotics uses. These are vendor-described capabilities and target markets, not independent performance tests.
Is Ambarella still in GoPro cameras?
Ambarella became widely associated with action-camera processors, including chips reported by secondary sources in earlier GoPro Hero generations through the Hero5 era. However, the current filings reviewed for this article do not establish a present GoPro supply relationship or a GoPro share of Ambarella revenue.

Ambarella’s latest filings continue to include consumer devices such as action, drone and 360-degree cameras among its markets. Therefore, it is not accurate to say that Ambarella has left cameras altogether. The defensible conclusion is that the company has broadened its portfolio so camera chips are one part of a larger edge- and physical-AI strategy.

Ambarella says IoT product lifecycles typically run 12 to 24 months. It expects automotive, industrial and robotics products to have lifecycles longer than 24 months. A successful design in those sectors can therefore remain in production longer than a fast-changing consumer camera, although qualification and production ramps can take longer as well.
Longer programs do not eliminate commercial risk. Ambarella states that it has historically relied on a limited number of end markets and expects concentration to continue. A significant portion of revenue also comes from a limited number of OEM and ODM customers. Revenue consequently depends on whether those customers complete designs, ship products and maintain demand.

What the ZEDEDA partnership means
On September 15, 2026, Ambarella and ZEDEDA announced a strategic partnership for cloud-orchestrated AI on physical-edge devices, including cameras, robots, vehicles and industrial systems. The announcement supports Ambarella’s ecosystem direction: edge devices can run AI locally while fleets and deployments are managed through cloud-connected tooling.
The release describes potential deployments across many nodes and enterprises, but those outcomes remain conditional on customer adoption and subsequent decisions by the companies. The partnership is strategic and ecosystem evidence, not booked sales or guaranteed future revenue.

The shift is best understood as a change in emphasis and application breadth. Ambarella is reusing its strengths in efficient video and image processing to serve machines that must perceive and react, while retaining consumer devices as part of its addressable market.
