The reported October Prime Day deal is for the 2024 Kindle with 16GB, not Amazon’s newly announced 2026 model. Lifehacker reported it at $103.99, down from $149.99, on October 5, 2026; that is a dated deal report, not confirmation of today’s checkout price. [Lifehacker’s deal report] notes that pricing and availability can change.
Which Kindle is on sale?
The sale device is the black-and-white, 16GB 2024 Kindle. The deal report dated October 5, 2026, put it at $103.99, reduced from $149.99. The amount was reported by Lifehacker; the available information does not establish that the same price remains available at checkout on October 7. Check the listing before buying.
This distinction matters because Amazon announced a new Kindle lineup on October 1, 2026. Its new 6-inch base Kindle starts at $149.99, so the reported $103.99 deal should not be mistaken for a discount on that newer model. [Amazon’s October 1 announcement]
How does the deal compare with the new Kindle?
| Model or price reference | What is established |
|---|---|
| 2024 Kindle, 16GB | Lifehacker reported a price of $103.99, down from $149.99, on October 5, 2026. The live checkout price is not established. [Lifehacker] |
| 2026 6-inch Kindle | Amazon announced a starting price of $149.99 on October 1, 2026. Amazon says it has 16GB storage, up to six weeks of battery life, and a flush-front design; those claims describe the 2026 model. [Amazon] |
| June 2026 Prime Day price | Amazon’s June Prime Day page listed the Kindle at $84.99. This is a historical promotion, not proof of an all-time low or the price available in October. [Amazon’s June Prime Day page] |
Amazon called the 2026 Kindle “the most pocket-sized Kindle we’ve ever made.” That is Amazon’s description of the new model, not a verified specification claim about the 2024 sale device.

Is the 2024 Kindle the right fit?
The reported deal is aimed at readers who want a lower-cost, compact e-reader for basic black-and-white reading. A Paperwhite may be a better match if you specifically want features such as a larger display, waterproofing, or warm light. The available product information does not establish a complete, like-for-like specification comparison between the 2024 Kindle and Paperwhite, so compare the exact models in Amazon’s current listings before choosing.
Is $103.99 a good Prime Day price?
It is below the reported former price of $149.99, but the available price history does not show it as a record low: Amazon’s June 2026 Prime Day page listed the Kindle at $84.99. That earlier promotion is useful context, but it does not establish what price is best for every buyer or what the October checkout price will be.

TechRadar described the US and UK Prime Big Deal Days event as running October 6–7, 2026. Its pre-sale coverage said US Kindle discounts had not appeared when Amazon announced the new lineup; that was an earlier observation and does not conflict with Lifehacker’s October 5 deal report. No. Kindle Click is an optional remote page-turning accessory, not a requirement for using the e-reader. Amazon lists it at $34.99 and says it works with Kindle models from 2024 onward, which includes the 2024 deal model. [Amazon’s Kindle Click listing]
