For the Paperwhite’s model-specific details, see Amazon’s Kindle identification page. The basic Kindle is the more compact option for ordinary ebook reading. Consider the 2024 Paperwhite if you want its listed warm-light adjustment, larger screen or IPX8 water resistance; current prices are not established here, so check local listings before comparing value.
Which Kindle is the 2024 model?
Amazon identifies it as the Kindle (11th Generation) — 2024 release. The generation label alone is ambiguous: Amazon also lists an 11th-generation Kindle released in 2022. Include “2024 release” when identifying or shopping for this version. Regional product names, colors, bundles and offers may vary, so confirm the exact device on your local Amazon listing.

What the 25% brightness claim means
Amazon says the 2024 Kindle’s maximum front-light setting is 25% brighter than the previous release, and describes it as “as bright as Kindle Paperwhite.” The percentage is Amazon’s comparison claim; the announcement does not provide a measured luminance value or independent test. Amazon also describes higher contrast and faster page turns without publishing a contrast ratio or timing figure.
What to check before buying
- Confirm the release: Look for “Kindle (11th Generation, 2024 release)” rather than relying on “11th Generation” alone.
- Check water-resistance needs: Amazon lists IPX8 for the 2024 Paperwhite, but does not identify the basic 2024 Kindle as waterproof.
- Check local listing details: Current price, availability, included items and regional variants are not established here.
- Verify case compatibility: Amazon advises keeping a cover on a Kindle when carrying it in a bag or briefcase to help avoid scratches. Choose a case that explicitly states compatibility with the 2024 basic Kindle; an exact compatible case listing is not established here. See Amazon’s Kindle safety and compliance information.
Software version
Amazon’s software update page listed version 5.19.6 for both the 2024 Kindle and 2024 Paperwhite at the time that page was checked. Software versions change; consult the Amazon Kindle E-Reader Software Updates page for the current model-specific listing.
