The 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus adds Wi-Fi 6E and doubles built-in storage to 16 GB, compared with Wi-Fi 6 and 8 GB on the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023). Both offer 4K playback and Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. Amazon lists the same processor for both, so the published specifications do not show a processor upgrade.
Fire TV Stick 4K Plus vs. Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023)
Amazon’s current device comparison table lists the 2025 Plus with Wi-Fi 6E and 16 GB of storage. The 2023 second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K has Wi-Fi 6 and 8 GB. Their listed processor and supported 4K HDR formats match.
| Specification | Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023) | Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) |
|---|---|---|
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 6, dual-band (2.4 and 5 GHz) | Wi-Fi 6E, tri-band, including 6 GHz |
| Internal storage | 8 GB | 16 GB |
| Processor | MediaTek MT8696D | MediaTek MT8696D |
| Resolution and HDR formats | 4K; Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG | 4K; Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG |
Specifications are from Amazon’s comparison table. HDR playback depends on compatible content and a compatible display; the format names alone do not guarantee that every title or television will use them.
What Wi-Fi 6E changes—and what it does not promise
The Plus’s Wi-Fi 6E specification includes access to the 6 GHz band, whereas the 2023 stick is listed with 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6. To use 6 GHz, you need a compatible Wi-Fi 6E network and suitable conditions. If your router does not support that band, the specification does not establish a benefit for your setup.

A band and Wi-Fi generation listed on a product page are not a real-world speed test. They do not, by themselves, show that the Plus will stream faster, buffer less, or make menus more responsive. Amazon’s published comparison does not establish those outcomes.
Does the extra storage matter?
The Plus has 16 GB of listed internal storage, twice the 8 GB listed for the 2023 4K. That added capacity may be useful if you install many apps. Amazon’s comparison does not state how much storage is available for users after system software and other allocations, so the listed totals should not be treated as usable app space.

Picture quality and processor: no listed upgrade
Both models are listed for 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HLG. Those are shared capabilities, not Plus-exclusive features. Your TV and the content you watch also need to support the relevant formats.
Amazon lists the MediaTek MT8696D in both comparison entries. The published specifications therefore do not support describing the Plus as a processor upgrade or claiming it is faster based on the chip.

Which model makes more sense for you?
Choose the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) if
- Your Wi-Fi 6E network can use 6 GHz and that capability matters for your setup.
- You want the larger listed storage capacity for an app-heavy device.
Consider the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023) if
- You mainly need the shared 4K and HDR formats.
- Your network is dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and you do not expect to use 6 GHz.
The Plus has the stronger specification on paper for Wi-Fi 6E and storage, but the available specifications do not establish a value winner without current prices. Compare the prices of the exact generations at the time you buy; the 2023 model retains the listed core picture formats and the same processor.
Check the exact generation before buying
“Fire TV Stick 4K” can refer to different generations. Amazon’s Fire TV development release record lists the 4K Plus in October 2025. Check that a product listing identifies the device as either “Fire TV Stick 4K Plus” or “Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023)” rather than relying on “4K” alone.

Ethernet and an Amazon support-page discrepancy
Amazon’s device identification help page says the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K supports wired Ethernet through an Amazon Ethernet Adapter sold separately. Check the adapter’s current compatibility and listing before purchasing it.
That help page gives different Plus specifications—Wi-Fi 6 and 8 GB—than Amazon’s current technical comparison table, which lists the 2025 Plus as Wi-Fi 6E and 16 GB. Because the technical table identifies the 2025 model build and is more specific for this comparison, the figures in this article follow that table.
