Those are different kinds of voice control, not equivalent hands-free replacements. Choose based on whether you need a built-in listening device, a voice remote, a particular streaming ecosystem, or specific ports and smart-home features.
What counts as a Fire TV Cube alternative for voice control?
The Cube’s distinguishing feature is not simply that it supports voice commands. Amazon documents a four-microphone array and hands-free Alexa control on its third-generation model, released in 2022. That lets you speak to the device without first picking up a remote and pressing its microphone button.
A voice remote is a different arrangement: you use a button on the remote to speak. Using a separate Alexa-enabled device to control a streamer is different again. These options may all offer voice features, but only the Cube in this comparison is documented with its own far-field Alexa microphones.

Google TV Streamer: the Google-focused option
Google TV Streamer (4K) is the clearest alternative if you want a box-form-factor player with Google TV and Google Home features. Google documents up to 4K output, built-in Ethernet, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a Thread border router, and support as a Google Home and Matter hub.

Its voice search is through the remote, rather than the Streamer listening for far-field commands like the Cube. Google says, “You can use the redesigned remote to search across all your favorite apps using just your voice, or if you ever lose it, you can make it ring with the press of a button on the streamer or by asking Google.” The remote also has a customizable button, and the streamer can help you find a lost remote.
Google’s page lists the Streamer at $99.99 in the US; that is a regional listed price, not a guarantee of the price you will pay elsewhere or in the future. Google says an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable is sold separately and recommends it for optimal performance. Whether you need that cable depends on the rest of your TV and receiver setup.

Roku Ultra: Roku interface, voice remote, and ports
Roku Ultra is a fit for people who prefer Roku’s player ecosystem and want more than a basic voice remote. Roku lists 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, USB, and Voice Remote Pro for the Ultra.
Roku’s page says Alexa functionality requires an Alexa-enabled device, and Google Assistant functionality requires a Google Assistant-enabled device. That external-assistant requirement is not the same as having the Cube’s built-in far-field Alexa microphones.

Roku’s comparison page displayed $99.99 as a current offer and $149.99 as the crossed-out amount when accessed for this comparison. Treat those as changeable promotional figures, not a stable everyday price. Roku also notes that app availability varies by country and may change.

Apple’s product overview emphasizes Apple services, streaming apps, App Store apps, and integration with Apple devices and smart-home accessories. That makes Apple TV 4K a natural choice if those connections matter more to you than matching the Cube’s hands-free Alexa behavior.

The Apple overview reviewed does not provide enough detail to make a fair specification-by-specification ranking against the other players, nor does it establish Cube-equivalent far-field voice control. Do not assume that a voice feature on an Apple device works like the Cube’s built-in microphones.
How to choose the right device
- Decide how you want to speak to the streamer. Choose the Fire TV Cube if you want documented far-field Alexa control from the device itself. Choose Google TV Streamer or Roku Ultra if speaking into a remote is acceptable. For Roku Alexa or Google Assistant functions, plan on a compatible external assistant device.
- Match the device to your household’s ecosystem. Google TV Streamer adds Google Home and Matter hub capabilities; Roku Ultra is for Roku’s player ecosystem; Apple TV 4K foregrounds Apple services and device integration. The Cube is the option here centered on Alexa and Fire TV.
- Check your TV and audio setup. 4K, HDR formats, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos work only when the player, display, content, and any audio equipment in the chain support the relevant feature. A feature on a device’s specification list alone does not guarantee that you will see or hear it.
- Check ports and network needs. The Cube and Roku Ultra list Ethernet, while Google TV Streamer also has built-in Ethernet. The Cube adds an HDMI input and output; Roku lists USB. Confirm that the connections you need fit your TV, receiver, and other equipment.
- Verify apps and subscriptions in your region. Paid subscriptions may be required for content, and app catalogs can differ by country. Check the services you actually use before choosing a platform.
