AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver reportedly contains three identifiers—ATlite3, AT2 and Gainsborough—that hardware watchers have linked to future graphics products, a possible PS6 and a possible Steam Deck successor. The driver names are reported observations; the device connections remain unconfirmed theories, not product announcements.
What was reportedly found in the AMD driver?
VideoCardz reported on October 2, 2026, that AnandTech forum member SixPie spotted the identifiers ATlite3, AT2 and Gainsborough in AMD’s Adrenalin 26.9.2 package. AMD released that optional driver on September 29, 2026. AMD’s release notes for Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 establish the driver version and release context, but do not identify these strings as PS6 or Steam Deck hardware.
The distinction matters: a name appearing in a driver can prompt investigation, but it does not by itself reveal the product it belongs to, whether a consumer device will use it, or when such a device might launch.
What might ATlite3 and AT2 mean?
ATlite3 and the alleged PS6 connection
VideoCardz attributed to leaker Kepler_L2 the suggestion that ATlite3 is the GPU for Orion, a name associated in the report with a possible next-generation PlayStation platform. The theory draws a parallel with “Navi10Lite,” a name associated with PS5 development. That naming comparison is suggestive context, not confirmation from AMD or Sony that ATlite3 belongs to a PS6.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
AT2
The same VideoCardz report says AT2 had appeared in earlier RDNA 5 reporting. Its presence alongside the other identifiers does not establish a specific retail product or its capabilities.
Why is Gainsborough linked to a Steam Deck successor?
VideoCardz reported import/export records said to show Gainsborough validation hardware using an FF6 BGA package with 1,179 contacts. It also attributed to Kepler_L2 the suggestion that Gainsborough could be connected to a future Steam Deck. These are second-hand reports and interpretation; they do not establish that Valve is making a successor or disclose its specifications or timing.

The name provides another clue cited in the reporting: the original Steam Deck APU was called Aerith, while the OLED revision’s APU was called Sephiroth. Both names refer to characters from Final Fantasy VII, and Gainsborough is Aerith’s surname. A naming pattern can make the theory plausible, but it cannot prove the identity of the hardware.
Valve designer Pierre-Loup Griffais has previously described the company’s goal for a future Deck as a meaningful generational step: “We’re not interested in getting to a point where it’s 20 or 30 or even 50% more performance at the same battery life. We want something a little bit more demarcated than that,” as quoted by PC Gamer. That design goal is not confirmation that Gainsborough is a future Deck chip.

Does the driver confirm a PS6 or Steam Deck 2?
No. AMD’s release notes do not make either connection, and iXBT’s October 6, 2026 report explicitly says the proposed PS6 and Steam Deck 2 associations have no official confirmation. The cited material does not establish specifications, prices, release dates or retail availability for either rumored device.
For a current product reference, Valve’s Steam Deck page presents the Steam Deck OLED as an available model. It is the current product to distinguish from an unannounced successor—not evidence that a Steam Deck 2 has been confirmed.
