PCWorld praised its 2025 Core Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5070 review unit at $1,999; that verdict does not automatically apply to the 2026 refresh or to every current offer. Compare equivalent screens, processors, graphics, memory, and storage before deciding.
Which Alienware 16X Aurora is this review about?
The name covers more than one configuration and generation. PCWorld’s 2025 review examined a 16-inch model with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070, and 32 GB of DDR5 memory. PCWorld also noted an RTX 5060 option and configurations with up to 64 GB of memory. Its review conclusions and price refer to that period and tested configuration, not every Aurora sold since.
The 2026 refresh adds options that should not be confused with PCWorld’s 2025 test unit. Notebookcheck reports that the newer generation offers OLED displays with HDR support, RTX 5070 Ti graphics, and a higher-tier Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor. These are configuration choices, not features to assume are present on every 16X Aurora.
How good is the Alienware 16X Aurora?
The published reviews point to a capable system whose appeal rests on the combination of gaming hardware and display—not a universally low price. PCWorld considered its 2025 RTX 5070 configuration a strong value at the price it reviewed. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 testing of its unit found 18,697 in Geekbench 6 multi-core, 98.3% sRGB coverage, 99% DCI-P3 coverage, 450.8 nits of measured brightness, and a 0.6 Delta-E result. Those are publication-specific test results, not guarantees for every display or configuration.

- Brilliant display: Go deeper into games with a 16” WQXGA 120Hz display with 300 nits brightness.
- Game changing graphics: Step into the future of gaming and creation with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPUs, powered by NVIDIA Blackwell and AI.
- Innovative cooling: A newly designed Cryo-Chamber structure focuses airflow to the core components, where it matters most.
- Comfort focused design: Alienware 16 Aurora’s streamlined design offers advanced thermal support without the need for a rear thermal shelf.
- Dell Services: 1 Year Onsite Service provides support when and where you need it. Dell will come to your home, office, or location of choice, if an issue covered by Limited Hardware Warranty cannot be resolved remotely.
Those display measurements suggest a bright, color-rich panel on Tom’s Guide’s test unit. To apply them to a laptop you are considering, verify that its screen matches the reviewed configuration; display technology and options vary, particularly between the 2025 model and the 2026 refresh.
Is it still good value at current prices?
Price is the key qualification. PCWorld listed $1,999 for its 2025 Core Ultra 9 275HX/RTX 5070 review unit and $1,549 as the starting price for other configurations at review time. Those are historical review-context prices, not a current quote or a promise that an equivalent model is available at either amount.
Dell’s US product page showed a different configuration or offer at $2,649.99 after a $500 discount when checked on October 8, 2026, with the offer stated as valid through October 30, 2026. That is one dated US listing, not a durable MSRP or a price for every SKU. Check the configuration and final price directly before buying: Dell’s US Alienware 16X Aurora page.

Current alternatives may narrow the value gap. In its 2026 review, Tom’s Hardware said laptops with HX-class processors, premium screens, and RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 graphics were within about $100 of the Aurora it tested. That comparison is a reason to price-check peers, not proof that every competitor has the same price or specifications.
What to compare before choosing a configuration
Compare laptops at the same time and as closely matched as possible. A lower sticker price may reflect a different screen, graphics tier, memory amount, or storage capacity.
- Processor and graphics: Match the CPU tier and laptop GPU. An RTX 5060 configuration is not equivalent to an RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti model.
- Display: Confirm panel technology, resolution, refresh rate, brightness, and color coverage. Check whether a 2026 OLED/HDR option is actually included.
- Memory and storage: Compare installed RAM and storage, not just the maximum memory the product line supports.
- Performance evidence: Look for reviews of the exact configuration, including gaming or work performance, temperatures, and fan noise. The cited figures above do not establish results for every SKU.
- Portability: Consider the laptop and its power adapter together, along with battery and charging behavior.
- Live price: Compare final prices for equivalent configurations, including whether a listed discount is temporary.
What are the practical drawbacks?
Portability is not just a question of whether the laptop fits in a bag. TechRadar describes the power adapter as chunky, though it says it fits in a standard-sized laptop backpack. In TechRadar’s testing, a full charge took around two hours; charging time can vary with configuration, settings, and conditions. Those observations matter if you plan to travel with the system or rely on charging between sessions.

The Aurora is worth considering if its exact configuration meets your needs and its current price compares well with similarly equipped HX-class laptops. The 2025 RTX 5070 review unit’s favorable value judgment is most relevant when assessing a closely matching configuration at a comparable price. For a 2026 OLED, RTX 5070 Ti, or Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus model, compare that specific upgrade and its price against alternatives rather than inheriting the older verdict.
