Noise cancellation
Apple claims AirPods Max 2 offers up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) than the previous generation. That is Apple’s comparison, not an independently verified measurement. Eric Treski, Apple’s director of Audio Product Marketing, described the claim as “up to 1.5x more effective ANC.”
USB-C, lossless audio, and low latency
AirPods Max 2 has a new high dynamic range amplifier and supports wired lossless audio and ultra-low-latency audio through USB-C. Lossless listening requires a wired USB-C connection and compatible content from supported apps and services; Bluetooth alone does not provide that lossless mode.

Colors, weight, and battery

Do AirPods Max 2 work with non-Apple devices?
AirPods Max can function as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple warns that functionality may be limited. Several AirPods Max 2 features require current firmware and compatible Apple hardware. Apple lists iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, or macOS 26.4 and later for certain features. Live Translation requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26.4 or later, and language and regional availability may vary. Is another AirPods Max model still rumored?
A separate rumor concerns a potentially lighter AirPods Max model. MacRumors reported on July 24, 2026, that analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had expected mass production in 2027, based on a May 2025 prediction.
