NCSOFT confirms separate faction starting regions and a story that leads into Realm-versus-Realm (RvR) battles, but its published material does not establish a permanent combat advantage for either side.
What differs between Elyos and Asmodians?
The confirmed differences are faction identity, starting region, and participation in the game’s opposing-faction conflict. NCSOFT says players choose Elyos or Asmodian and begin in separate regions; the story progresses into large-scale RvR battles. The factions’ rivalry is also described as a core part of the AION franchise. NCSOFT’s June 4, 2025 overview places AION 2 200 years after the original AION and describes a world over 36 times larger than the original game; those are game-world scale and setting details, not evidence that one faction is stronger.
Separate starts and faction identity
Your choice determines which faction’s starting region and identity you experience. The official announcement confirms the separate starts, but does not provide a complete current side-by-side account of both storylines. If a particular narrative or region is the deciding factor, consult current in-game or official materials for the details available at character creation.
Faction PvP and the Abyss
PvP is a meaningful part of the choice if you want to compete in faction battles. NCSOFT describes the Abyss as a competitive battlefield with race-based PvP, field bosses, artifacts, and Abyss Points. Its September 12, 2025 launch announcement outlines those activities. The announcement confirms the role of faction conflict, but it does not provide a current comparison of which side wins more often.

Is one faction stronger?
No lasting Elyos or Asmodian combat advantage is established by the official material cited here. There is no supported basis in these announcements for choosing one side on the assumption that it has better combat stats, wins more, or is inherently more powerful. Server outcomes, player population impressions, and visual preference do not prove a permanent faction-level advantage.
That does not establish complete class or ability parity. NCSOFT’s 2025 overview introduced eight playable classes, but an initial class reveal does not confirm the current class roster or a full faction-by-faction comparison. Check current official class descriptions and confirm availability in the game materials for your region before basing your faction choice on a specific class.

How to choose your faction
- Check where your friends will play. If your group has chosen a faction and server, joining them is a practical reason to choose that side. Check server availability and faction-creation rules when you make your character.
- Choose the identity and starting region you prefer. The factions have separate starts. Pick the one whose theme and opening setting appeal to you, while recognizing that the cited announcement does not offer a complete current storyline comparison.
- For PvP, check current server matching and siege information. Server pairings and balance measures can change. The February 11, 2026 update describes a round of server matching that considered Abyss eliminations, server combat participation, Artifact Siege performance, and overall battle engagement. It also described Abyss Corridor access if a faction fell significantly behind 3:0 in siege results. These are details from that dated notice, not a guarantee of the rules or balance in effect when you play. Read NCSOFT’s February 11, 2026 update and check newer notices before deciding on a server for competitive play.
- Pick a class using current information. Review the latest official class descriptions, then verify that your preferred class is available to your chosen faction. The eight-class figure belongs to NCSOFT’s June 2025 initial reveal, not a confirmed current total.
- Treat appearance as personal preference. Choose whichever faction’s visual theme you like. The cited official material does not establish an objective aesthetic winner or a gameplay benefit tied to appearance.
What to verify before creating a character
- Whether your friends’ faction and server are available to join.
- The current server pairing and faction-balance notices if you expect to spend substantial time in PvP.
- Current class descriptions and faction availability if your choice depends on a particular class.
- Current starting-region and story information if the opening experience is your main consideration.
NCSOFT’s server-matching update shows that faction balance is managed and can be addressed through changing measures. It does not supply a named, independent population count or a durable faction win-rate comparison, so claims that one faction is always more populated or more successful should not be treated as established fact.
