Choose your Aion 2 class by the role and combat style you want—not by chasing a supposedly permanent “best” pick. For a straightforward start, an unofficial beginner guide suggests Gladiator for a durable melee style or Ranger for safer ranged combat. These are starting points, not tested rankings: class roles and balance can change, and the available sources do not establish an objectively best beginner class.
How to choose a class
Think about what you want to do from moment to moment. Do you prefer fighting up close or at range? Do you want steady damage, a more deliberate burst window, or responsibility for keeping allies alive? Your answers are more useful than a tier list when balance and group needs can shift.
- Range: Choose melee if you want to stay close to enemies; choose ranged combat if you would rather attack from a safer distance.
- Group responsibility: Decide whether you want to focus on damage, tanking, healing, or support. Tank and support roles bring responsibilities beyond dealing damage.
- Execution: Consider how much you enjoy managing positioning, target changes, pets, or skill sequences. The role descriptions available are unofficial characterizations, not guarantees about difficulty.
- Activity: Think about whether you expect to play mostly solo or in groups, and choose a style you will enjoy in both the content you plan to do and the current patch.
An AION 2 class guide describes Ranger as approachable, Templar as a defensive group tank, Gladiator as an aggressive frontline tank-bruiser, Cleric as a dedicated healer, and Chanter as a utility-support option. These descriptions can help you narrow your preferences, but they are secondary-source guidance rather than official class guarantees. See the guide’s class comparisons.
Beginner-friendly starting points
Gladiator: durable melee
An unofficial beginner guide recommends Gladiator for durability and simple combos. Consider it if you want to learn close-range combat while taking a more frontline-oriented role. The description is a suggestion, not a measured difficulty rating or promise of easy performance.

Ranger: ranged combat
The same beginner guide suggests Ranger for players who prefer ranged safety, and another unofficial guide characterizes it as approachable. This may suit you if you want distance from enemies, but it does not guarantee that every encounter or group activity will feel safer.
Brawler: a newer melee option
NCSOFT announced Brawler in its July 6, 2026 update. Brawler uses Gauntlets; basic attacks and active skills generate Rage, and reaching a gauge threshold activates Rampage. It is a concrete option for players interested in melee combat, but the announcement does not compare its beginner difficulty with other classes.

Do not treat these suggestions as a complete or verified current roster. The class lineup changed after launch, and the sources available do not establish a current official roster page. Check the in-game class list and skill descriptions before making a choice. An unofficial beginner guide says factions can play every class, but confirm current faction rules in game as well.
Build your character as you progress
Use upgrades and role-relevant stats as a starting point
An unofficial beginner guide advises equipping upgrades as they appear and focusing on stats associated with your role. It gives HP for tanks, attack for damage dealers, and healing for supports as examples. Treat those as broad orientation, not validated stat weights: the available evidence does not quantify their impact or establish an optimal priority for each class.

That guide also recommends learning target swaps and aerial repositioning, and keeping quests, buffs, and food in mind. These are general play tips rather than a tested build plan; use current in-game tooltips to judge which skills and effects matter for your character.

- Daevanion: The guide characterizes this as a mid-game layer for investing in skills.
- Gear inheritance or conversion: The guide advises checking these options before discarding gear.

Keep patch changes in view
NCSOFT’s July 6, 2026 update stated that the level cap was 50 and Stigma skills could be enhanced to level 25 at that time. Those are dated patch details, not a guarantee that the same limits remain current. Check the latest in-game information for later changes.

What not to assume about an optimal build
The sources available do not establish reliable current stat weights, skill rotations, or optimal builds for each class. An unofficial class guide warns that balance changes can affect damage, cooldowns, survivability, and group needs. Rather than copying a fixed build, use your class’s current skill tooltips, experiment with the abilities you enjoy, and consult dated class guidance with the patch context in mind.
For a new player, a sound first choice is the class whose range, role, and execution feel appealing. You can learn the game’s systems as you progress without pretending that one class or build is best for every player or activity.
