When someone reports “Free shipping is broken,” a coding agent needs more than a broad text search: it needs evidence about which route, code, and runtime behavior are involved. Semitexa’s development workflow combines route introspection and Project Graph for structural context, Observatory for request traces, then replay and tests to check a proposed fix. Those tools help investigate a defect; they do not decide what the product rule should be or guarantee the result is correct.

What “AI-native” means in this PHP workflow

Here, “AI-native” describes a development environment that exposes application structure and execution evidence to an AI coding agent. The agent can ask which route handles a request, inspect relationships among relevant code, and examine instrumented work from an actual request rather than relying only on search results or conversational memory.

Semitexa’s Core package describes a framework runtime with lifecycle management, attribute-driven discovery, a dependency container, CLI, Composer integration, and Swoole integration. Its package page lists PHP ^8.4. The Dev package describes code generators and capability-aware CLI tooling, including an agent-facing ai:* workflow surface. Project Graph scans PHP source, extracts semantic information through attributes and AST analysis, and stores a directed graph. These are distinct parts of the environment: the graph describes code relationships, while runtime inspection concerns a particular execution.

The specific commands below come from Semitexa’s September 24, 2026 article by Taras Hanych (SyntaxWanderer). The article says they reflect the development build used for its example; command names and capabilities may differ by installed version. Start with the product rule, not the code change

A report that shipping is wrong does not, by itself, specify the intended behavior. The example in Semitexa’s article uses a deliberately narrow lab rule: standard shipping costs $12 when the subtotal is below $100 and is free at $100 or more. The wording “from $100” makes the threshold inclusive, so exactly $100 must qualify for free shipping.

Writing down that acceptance criterion first prevents an agent—or a developer—from treating the current implementation as the source of truth. The example stores money as integer cents, making the boundary explicit:

  • $99.99 is 9,999 cents and should incur the $12 charge.
  • $100.00 is 10,000 cents and should receive free shipping.
  • $100.01 is 10,001 cents and should receive free shipping.

These figures and this rule belong to the article’s demonstration, not to a universal shipping policy.

Investigate the defect with complementary evidence

Find the route and code relationships

The walkthrough begins by asking which route handles the failing request, using route introspection such as bin/semitexa ai:ask route. Project Graph can then help inspect the relationships around that route and the likely shipping policy, supporting an impact review before a change is made.

These structural views answer questions such as “What is connected to this handler?” They do not establish which path a particular request actually took, nor can they infer whether the business rule is intended. A graph narrows the investigation; it is not a runtime trace or a specification.

Inspect what happened on the request

Semitexa’s Observatory provides runtime evidence for instrumented work during a request. In the example, the request succeeds at the HTTP level but returns the wrong shipping result at the threshold. That distinction matters: a successful response shows that the request completed, not that the business outcome is correct.

A trace can show what ran for the observed request, but it cannot prove that the resulting amount is correct for every case. The developer still has to compare observed behavior with the acceptance criterion, and the trace is only as informative as the instrumentation and data captured for that execution.

Correct the owner of the shipping rule

Once the relevant policy is located, the example’s defect is a strict comparison where the requirement calls for an inclusive one. The faulty condition charges $12 when the subtotal is below $100, but its implementation treats exactly $100 as not qualifying for free shipping because it uses > rather than >=.

Using integer cents, the intended threshold test is equivalent to subtotalCents >= 10000. The important change is not merely swapping an operator: make the correction where the shipping rule is owned, and keep it aligned with the stated requirement. The agent can help identify and edit the relevant code; the developer remains responsible for confirming the requirement and reviewing the change.

Replay and test the behavior without overclaiming

Use replay for a controlled handler check

The article demonstrates Semitexa replay as a way to invoke the resolved handler with a hydrated payload and resource. It explicitly supplies replay inputs because the original hydration trace had an empty payload snapshot. That is a useful reminder: a replay needs meaningful inputs, and an empty or incomplete snapshot cannot stand in for the failing order’s data.

Replay is narrower than sending a fresh HTTP request through the whole application. It does not, by itself, establish full HTTP behavior, authorization, rendering, or external-service execution. Use it to check the handler behavior within its replay boundary, then verify any relevant behavior outside that boundary through appropriate tests or an actual request.

Cover the boundary with focused tests

The example’s adjacent values expose the off-by-one-style boundary mistake: one value immediately below $100 and values at and above it. Semitexa’s article reports that its example suite ran seven tests and 25 assertions, covering six scenario/implementation combinations plus an unknown-input fallback. That count describes the article’s example suite, not a general benchmark or a test run for another application.

The walkthrough also uses ai:verify as part of its verification flow. Treat any verification command as evidence about the checks it actually performs; it cannot replace inspecting test coverage or confirming that the checks encode the intended rule. A test suite only establishes behavior for the cases it states, so add cases that matter to the application rather than assuming a green run proves every shipping scenario.

How to assess the workflow in your own project

The practical value is whether the tools make an investigation more explicit and reviewable. For a suspected defect, ask:

  • Structural discoverability: Can you identify the route and the code relationships likely to own the behavior?
  • Execution visibility: Can you see instrumented work for the request that demonstrated the symptom?
  • Controlled replay: Can you provide inputs that reproduce the relevant handler case, and do you understand what replay omits?
  • Acceptance coverage: Do tests express the requirement, including its boundary cases?
  • Human judgment: Is a developer deciding whether the requirement is right and reviewing the implementation, rather than treating tool output as proof?

Semitexa’s architecture material describes a request flow as Payload → Handler → Resource → Template, and its Project Graph material discusses relationships and impact questions. Those descriptions can help readers understand the framework’s vocabulary, but they are not independent evidence that a specific change is correct or that the architecture improves performance. Hanych summarizes the division of labor this way: “The agent reasons; Semitexa supplies an execution, inspection, memory, and verification environment.”
