AI Weekly’s index lists 48 customer-service AI deployments, but they are not all established, active systems: its entries include announcements, pilots, production deployments, reported results, and cases that were halted or reversed. The index classifies 33 as in production or with results, 16 as having a reported outcome, and 2 as halted or reversed. Those are the index’s own counts, not an independent audit or a measure of how well customer-service AI works overall.
What the 48 deployments cover
The index, last updated September 28, 2026, groups reported deployments across software and technology, telecom, hospitality and travel, banking and finance, retail, healthcare, insurance, automotive, and transportation. “Customer service” here covers more than answering support questions: examples include account recovery, shopping assistance, voice interactions, and controls embedded in a vehicle.
The cases therefore are not directly interchangeable. An assistant that helps a shopper find a product has a different task from a system that routes support calls or helps someone regain access to an account. The index is best read as a curated set of reported examples, not a census of enterprise AI use or a like-for-like performance comparison.
Examples show how different the use cases are
| Organization and system | Customer-facing task | Channel or interface stated |
|---|---|---|
| Airbnb’s text-based support agent | Customer support | Text |
| Ring, with inbound support calls routed through Vapi | Handling or routing support calls | Phone or voice |
| Walmart’s Sparky | Shopping assistance | Not stated in the index summary |
| Rivian’s assistant | Voice assistance in a vehicle | In-vehicle voice interface |
| Meta’s Instagram account-recovery chatbot | Account recovery | Chatbot; the specific channel is not stated in the index summary |
These examples illustrate the range of tasks, not a ranking. The index’s inclusion of a deployment does not by itself establish its accuracy, customer satisfaction, safety, or effectiveness. The summary available for these cases does not specify each example’s maturity, outcome measures, or human-escalation process, so those details should not be inferred.

How mature are the deployments?
The headline count of 48 combines cases at different stages. An announcement or pilot is evidence that an organization has described or tested a use case; it is not equivalent to a production system serving customers. A reported result is another category again: it means an outcome was reported, not that the outcome was independently validated.
AI Weekly classifies 33 entries as in production or with results, 16 as having a reported outcome, and 2 as halted or reversed. These categories should not be treated as mutually exclusive: the index’s summary does not give a complete stage-by-stage breakdown or identify the status of each named example above. Its figures also do not establish that the other entries failed or were never used; they only show what the index classifies.

What the reported results can—and cannot—tell you
Sixteen entries have a reported outcome according to the index, but that count is not a finding that 16 deployments succeeded. Outcome figures are claims attributed to outside publications or organizations. They may use different measures and conditions, and the index’s aggregate count does not make them comparable. A reported change in one company’s operation should not be treated as a forecast for another company or as a typical return from customer-service AI.
The two halted or reversed cases matter for the same reason. Deployment is not proof of success, and an AI system can be paused or withdrawn. The index summary does not provide enough case-level detail to explain the causes of those reversals, so it would be misleading to attribute them to a particular technical or business problem.

For a meaningful assessment of any individual case, look for the original report and ask what task the system handled, whether it was piloted or used in production, which outcome was measured, who reported the result, and whether customers could reach a person when needed. The index associates platforms including Sierra and Vapi with reported deployments; that association is not an endorsement, product review, or evidence that a platform will deliver the same result elsewhere.

A separate ETH Library report extract gives context from a survey of 195 people or organizations in the Swiss tech industry. It reports that 47.7% had not yet considered AI in customer service and tech support, 15.4% had considered it but said it was not relevant, and 17.9% planned testing. Another 12.8% were pilot testing, 1.0% had implemented AI at scale, and 5.1% answered “don’t know.” The extract’s publication year and full sampling and methodology details are not established, so these figures should not be presented as a current or global adoption rate.

In that same survey, 32.3% expected to implement AI in customer service and tech support at scale within three years. That is a respondent expectation, not a realized deployment figure. The survey’s bounded sample and question differ from AI Weekly’s curated list of reported cases, so the two sources cannot be compared as competing estimates of adoption.
Quick Recap
What to take from the list
- Customer-service AI can mean support resolution, call handling, account recovery, shopping help, or an embedded voice interface; define the task before comparing systems.
- Separate announcements and pilots from production use and reported outcomes. The word “deployed” alone does not tell you which stage a case reached.
- Treat outcome numbers as attributed claims, not standard benchmarks or predictions. Check the original report for its measure, conditions, and source.
- Look for evidence about human escalation and recourse rather than assuming an AI agent provides them.
- Include halted or reversed cases in any assessment; a curated success-only list would give an incomplete picture.
