Qué hace AdwCleaner y qué no
Malwarebytes describe AdwCleaner como una utilidad para escanear y eliminar adware y software preinstalado de un equipo Windows. Está orientada a una limpieza bajo demanda: ejecutas el análisis cuando lo necesitas y decides qué elementos detectados poner en cuarentena. No equivale, por sí sola, a una solución de protección continua.
La página del producto de Malwarebytes también menciona PUP, secuestradores del navegador y barras de herramientas como problemas que la herramienta busca abordar. Una detección merece revisión: que aparezca en el resultado no significa que debas eliminarla sin comprobar qué es.
Compatibilidad y versión vigente
La información oficial de Malwarebytes no es completamente coherente sobre Windows 8.1. Su página de requisitos enumera Windows 11, Windows 10 y Windows 8.1; otra página indica que AdwCleaner 8.5 y posteriores solo funcionan en Windows 10 y 11. Por eso, no des por hecho que la versión más reciente funcionará en Windows 8.1: consulta la página de compatibilidad para la versión concreta antes de descargarla. Malwarebytes menciona versiones anteriores para Windows 7 u 8, pero no son la opción predeterminada y pueden no contar con soporte actual.

Según la tabla de ciclo de vida de Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner 8.8.1 figura como activa y tuvo disponibilidad general el 13 de mayo de 2026. La nota de la versión 8.8.0 indica que esa versión salió el 5 de mayo de 2026; no es la versión más reciente que aparece en la tabla de ciclo de vida.

Confirma que la versión sea compatible con tu Windows en las páginas oficiales de requisitos del sistema y de compatibilidad.

Abre el archivo descargado, que suele tener un nombre como
adwcleaner_x.x.x.exey quedar en Descargas. La guía oficial sugiere moverlo aC:AdwCleaner, aunque puedes ejecutarlo desde su ubicación actual. -
Si Windows muestra el aviso de Control de cuentas de usuario, apruébalo si tú iniciaste la descarga. Acepta el acuerdo de licencia para abrir la aplicación.

Si AdwCleaner solicita reiniciar, sigue el aviso. Después, consulta el registro de resultados si necesitas comprobar qué hizo la limpieza.
La herramienta también permite revisar los elementos en cuarentena y restaurarlos. Si crees que una detección es incorrecta, Malwarebytes indica que puedes reportar el posible falso positivo desde los resultados del análisis; no la restaures o ignores basándote únicamente en una suposición.
AdwCleaner incluye una opción llamada Basic Repair. Malwarebytes advierte que no debes ejecutarla salvo que un agente de soporte te lo indique.
