Choose based on the ride and platform you prefer, fit, and the price available where you shop—not on a promise of faster race times.
What changed from the Adios Pro 4 to the Pro 5?
ENERGYRIM replaces EnergyRods 2.0
The Pro 5 is the first Adios Pro to use adidas’s ENERGYRIM carbon structure, visible around the midsole. It replaces the Pro 4’s EnergyRods 2.0. adidas says this arrangement leaves more Lightstrike Pro foam directly beneath the runner while retaining stiffness for stability and propulsion. That is the manufacturer’s explanation of the design, not proof that every runner will perform better in it. adidas’s Pro 5 announcement and T3’s launch coverage describe the new structure.
The Pro 5 is lighter, though published figures differ slightly
adidas lists an average weight of 177 g for a sample UK 8.5 and says that is about 23 g, or 12%, lighter than the Pro 4. T3 reports 175 g in UK 8.5, about 25 g or 12.5% lighter. These are attributed figures for that size, not a guarantee for every size or individual shoe. The small difference between reports is worth keeping in mind rather than treating either value as a universal measurement.
Its cushioning geometry and official price
adidas lists the Pro 5 at 39 mm in the heel and 35 mm in the forefoot, for a 4 mm drop. The company announced a price of $275/€275 and global availability beginning 22 September 2026. Availability and price can vary by market: the adidas UK listing checked on 4 October 2026 showed £220 and availability from 22 October 2026. Check the local listing for current stock, dates, and price; the UK figure is a dated regional snapshot, not a universal price. adidas UK’s Pro 5 listing

How do the shoes feel different on the run?
Pro 5: softer forefoot and a more nimble feel
RTINGS characterizes the Pro 5 as lighter and more nimble, with softer forefoot cushioning that remains more protective over long efforts. It also considers the Pro 5 easier for most runners to trust underfoot than the Pro 4. Those are tester judgments, and an individual runner may respond differently to the shoes’ cushioning and geometry. RTINGS’s Pro 5 review
Pro 4: firmer, snappier, and stronger in RTINGS’s energy-return measures
RTINGS describes the Pro 4’s forefoot as firmer and snappier. Its comparison measurements favor the older shoe on energy return: heel results were 85.6% for the Pro 4 and 82.3% for the Pro 5; forefoot results were 87.0% and 84.4%, respectively. These are RTINGS comparison-test results, not population-wide figures or predictions of race outcomes. RTINGS’s Pro 5 and Pro 4 comparison

Stability: the Pro 5 removes the Pro 4’s medial cutout
RTINGS says neither shoe is highly stable, but it found the Pro 5 easier for most runners to trust because adidas removed the medial cutout that made the Pro 4 feel notably wobbly. This is a description of platform feel, not a medical or injury-prevention claim.
Does the Pro 5 return more energy—and does that mean faster times?
adidas claims a 9% improvement in energy return for the Pro 5 over the Pro 4. RTINGS’s displayed comparison results, however, are higher for the Pro 4 in both heel and forefoot testing. The measures may reflect different methods or definitions; the cited material does not reconcile the difference. Treat the 9% figure as adidas’s claim, not as an independently confirmed result or a direct estimate of race performance.

- ADIZERO ADIOS PRO 4 SYELLO/AURPLU/POWPLU
Neither the manufacturer’s energy-return claim nor RTINGS’s measurements establish that the Pro 5 will make a runner faster over a race. The available figures do not provide a representative race-time advantage, and they should not be translated into seconds saved.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you upgrade from the Adios Pro 4?
| Runner’s priority | More likely fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lighter construction and softer forefoot cushioning | Pro 5 | It is lighter in the published sample-size figures, and RTINGS describes its forefoot as softer and more protective over long efforts. |
| Less wobble from the platform | Pro 5, if it fits comfortably | RTINGS found it easier to trust underfoot after removal of the Pro 4’s medial cutout; neither shoe is highly stable. |
| Firmer, snappier forefoot feel | Pro 4 | RTINGS describes the Pro 4 this way and measured higher energy-return results for it. |
| Best value for a runner already happy with the Pro 4 | Pro 4, if substantially discounted | A lower local price can outweigh the appeal of the newer construction when the existing shoe suits your preferences. |
The Pro 5 is a sensible candidate if you want its lighter construction, prefer softer forefoot cushioning, or disliked the Pro 4’s medial-cutout feel—and can confirm that the new shoe fits you comfortably. Keeping or buying the Pro 4 makes more sense if you enjoy its firmer, snappier ride, especially when it is substantially discounted. There is no universal sizing rule established by the sources cited here, so verify fit individually rather than assuming the Pro 5 will fit like its predecessor.
