Acunetix 360 On-Premises v26.9.0, released on 10 September 2026, updates the product’s internal Chromium engine to version 149. Acunetix says the change is intended to provide “improved security, stability, and performance”; that is the vendor’s stated rationale, not an independently measured improvement. This update applies to the On-Premises release track and should not be treated as the latest engine version for every Acunetix product.

What changed in Acunetix 360 On-Premises?

The vendor’s Acunetix 360 On-Premises release notes list v26.9.0, dated 10 September 2026. They say: “Updated the internal Chromium engine to version 149 to provide improved security, stability, and performance.” This refers specifically to the internal Chromium browser engine. The note does not report a scanner detection-rate increase, a performance benchmark, or a measured change in vulnerability coverage.

The same release also lists login-screen-recorder changes and fixes for target-configuration stability, CyberArk authentication in the Business Logic Recorder, and SSO/Okta logins after upgrade. These are separate product changes, not additional claims about Chromium.

Acunetix release tracks are not interchangeable

Acunetix publishes separate notes for Standard & Premium, 360 On-Premises, and 360 On-Demand. A version or component change in one track does not establish the corresponding version or change in another.

The On-Demand notes also describe configurable scan-data retention of up to 730 days and OAuth2 and scheduled-scan fixes. Those items belong to that track’s releases; they are not part of the On-Premises v26.9.0 Chromium update.

How to find the right engine or scanner update

  1. Identify your product and deployment. Check whether you use Standard & Premium, 360 On-Premises, or 360 On-Demand. Do not choose an update based only on the phrase “Acunetix engine.”
  2. Open the matching release notes. Use the notes for your exact track: 360 On-Premises, 360 On-Demand, or Standard & Premium.
  3. Check the component named in the release. “Internal Chromium engine,” “scanner engine,” “scan agent,” and product-level fixes describe different components or changes. Confirm that the note applies to your edition and deployment.
  4. Verify the current upgrade procedure before changing a deployment. The available general Acunetix update guidance is an article from 14 March 2017, so it should not be relied on as current instructions. Consult current documentation for your product’s upgrade steps, maintenance eligibility, backup requirements, compatibility, and effect on active scans.

Does Acunetix update automatically, and will an upgrade stop scans?

An Acunetix article dated 14 March 2017 says automatic update checks and background installation were enabled by default, that updates waited for running scans to finish, and that version upgrades required a valid Maintenance Agreement. This is historical guidance, not confirmation of current behavior. Deployment model and current product documentation matter; the reviewed material does not establish today’s auto-update settings, maintenance terms, or whether an upgrade will interrupt scans. See the dated Acunetix update guidance and verify the procedure for your installed edition before scheduling a change.

What the release notes do—and do not—show

  • Established: 360 On-Premises v26.9.0 lists its internal Chromium engine as version 149.
  • Not established: that version 149 applies to On-Demand or Standard & Premium, or that v26.9.0 is the latest release for those tracks.
  • Not measured in the cited notes: an improvement in detection coverage, scan speed, or vulnerability-finding effectiveness. The stated security, stability, and performance rationale is Acunetix’s, not an independent test result.
