PowerPyx’s September 29, 2026 guide reports 52 campaign special-unit pilots and 31 optional enemy aces in ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE. It says special units generally appear automatically, while optional aces require Veteran difficulty or higher and a mission-specific trigger. The location and trigger list below reflects that third-party guide, not developer-confirmed spawn rules; several entries are incomplete or uncertain.
How Assault Records and ace spawns work
The guide separates campaign records into two groups: special-unit pilots and optional enemy aces. It says the special-unit pilots usually appear automatically, while each optional ace has a condition to meet. After an ace appears, shoot it down to record it. The guide also reports that recording an ace unlocks a paint scheme for that aircraft type for campaign use.
- Difficulty: Optional aces are reported to require Veteran difficulty or higher. The official game pages do not independently confirm that threshold.
- Triggers: Conditions include time limits, destroying one target before another, eliminating or preserving units, and flying through a particular route.
- Campaign scope: These are campaign Assault Records, not ACE COMBAT ONLINE progression. Bandai Namco describes online multiplayer as a separate mode with distinct progression and save data.
For a timed or order-dependent trigger, prioritize its stated condition before pursuing other objectives. Saving a mission replay or checkpoint where possible may help with another attempt; this is practical advice based on the listed conditions, not a tested guarantee.
Mission-by-mission locations and reported spawn conditions
The entries and conditions in this table are reported by PowerPyx’s Assault Records and enemy aces guide. “Automatic” means the guide lists no special trigger for that unit; it does not mean the guide’s mechanics have been confirmed by the developer. Mission 14 is absent from the guide’s visible list, so its omission should not be read as proof that it has no record.

What is confirmed, and what remains uncertain
Bandai Namco identifies ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE as a campaign game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, with a worldwide release date of October 2, 2026. Its official product page and walkthrough provide game and campaign context, but they do not document the Assault Record totals or individual ace triggers. The spawn list above should therefore be treated as guide-reported rather than official.
- The guide’s headline counts are 52 special-unit pilots and 31 optional aces, but its visible list skips Mission 14 and has missing or inconsistent details.
- Missions 5, 17, and 24 lack the ace’s name and aircraft in the guide. The proposed Mission 5 and Mission 17 identities come from reader comments, not confirmed entries.
- Mission 25’s guide entry does not state a condition for the 44th and 120th Units.
- Do not infer that an unlisted mission has no Assault Record, or that an unspecified condition is automatic.
Bandai Namco’s September 25, 2026 game overview offers additional campaign context, but does not resolve these spawn details.
